Friday Night Movie number 103 – ‘Secret Mission’

Another really good tale of derring-do by Allied agents and Resistance fighters in Nazi occupied France during World War II. ‘Secret Mission’ is a suspense thriller starring amongst others James Mason, Carla Lehmann, Hugh Williams and Michael Wilding.

The premise of the film is a small team of British agents sneak into France and with the help of the French Resistance, spy on German military facilities to provide intelligence for a forthcoming invasion of France by the Allies. In the film, made in 1942 well before D Day in 1944, the team as well as gathering intelligence also have to find a way to neutralise an armoured German bunker which the Royal Airforce has failed to properly penetrate.

This is a cracking wartime yarn with great action and suspense scenes along with the occasional comedic note weaved into the story, such as the British soldier who finds himself put in the same town as his estranged and needy French wife. All in all I really enjoyed this movie and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
