The Town that said NO! A concrete example of effective resistance from the town of, Concrete, Washington.

The Assembly of God Church in the town of Concrete, Washington, USA.

An American small town where a local teacher was smeared as a racist by the Hamas linked Islamic supremicist group Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR), has risen up and refused to be bullied by them.

The case revolves around a local teacher, Mary Janda, who was accused of ‘racism’ against Muslims for stating to her class, during a discussion, that the genocidal Islamic group, Hamas and the extremist Taliban were good examples of groups that bully to get their own way. This sent the Islamic grievance machine into overdrive and Ms Janda was denounced by CAIR for being racist against Muslims, even though Islam is a religious ideology and NOT a race by any sensible definition.

However, the people of the town of Concrete seem to be made of sterner stuff than some of the appeasers of Islam that infest British public life. They rose up and fought back against smears from terrorist-friendly, pro-Shariah groups like CAIR. They refused, point blank to a request from CAIR that CAIR run ‘diversity’ training for all employees of the local school district. The town called the requests ‘unreasonable’ and fought back with more a significant proportion of the town turning out for a meeting.

The small circulation local newspaper The Concrete Herald said:

“More than 450 people—about half of them from Concrete and other Upper Valley communities—filled the Concrete Assembly of God Church Tuesday night in support of Concrete Elementary School teacher Mary Janda.

The rally also was designed to take a closer look at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a self-described Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. In February, CAIR’s Seattle office filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice, asking it to investigate alleged anti-Muslim comments by Janda last October.

Speaking at the rally was ACT! for America Washington Director Kerry Hooks, who was joined by Shahram Hadian, a former Muslim and the founder of the Truth In Love Project. Hadian also was a candidate for governor in last year’s primary election.

ACT! was invited to speak in Concrete after Arlington activist Eric Archuletta—who has been working with the grassroots group Imagine Concrete since 2008—learned of the allegations against Janda and gathered a group of 14 concerned local citizens to discuss CAIR and what should be done to protect Janda’s reputation. The group voted unanimously to invite ACT! to get involved in the situation.

Attendees packed the church sanctuary and spilled into the foyer and a side room. They stood outside in the rain, lining the windows, which were opened so they could hear the speakers. They drove from Wenatchee, Portland, Tacoma, Bellingham, and Seattle. More than three dozen of Janda’s former and current students attended; near the end of the rally they held up signs they’d made, with messages including “In America, accusations require proof,” “Concrete students support Ms. Janda,” and “CAIR is bullying Concrete.”

One of Janda’s former students, Colton Maloney, 20, said he attended the rally to support Janda and respond to his frustration with the way television media had presented the story to this point.  “I’ve never met another teacher who put so much effort into our education,” he said. “She put in mile after extra mile.”

The sometimes emotional rally was tempered by the messages presented by Hooks and Hadian, who stated they were there to expose CAIR for what it really is.

“You’re not dealing with a civil rights group. That is a front,” said Hadian. “You are dealing with a group that has billions of dollars behind them from elements that want to further Islamic law.”

Hadian was born in Iran and is now a U.S. citizen. He said he witnessed “oppressive radical Islam” take over his country, and sees the same strategies being used by CAIR to insert its version of Islam into the public school system. “The access they’ve been given in our public schools is not being given to any other group,” he said. “They want specialized treatment for their brand of Islam.”

Hadrian aired CAIR’s allegations against Janda by reading from their letter to Concrete School District Superintendent Barbara Hawkings and from their application to the U.S. Dept. of Justice, which included the following statement:

“This incident concerns us not only as a civil rights issue, but also as a violation of public health and safety. By making the bigoted, misinformed comments that she did, Ms. Janda put an entire classroom of students at risk of going to school in an unsafe and degraded learning environment.”

Hadrian then told the crowd, “This teacher deserves the right to have her name cleared!” and was met with applause.

In the beginning
The incident that started CAIR’s involvement occurred on Oct. 29, 2012, in a classroom discussion between Janda and her students. Bullying was the topic of conversation, since the students had attended a “Rachel’s Challenge” (anti-bullying) school assembly earlier that month. According to a CAIR press release, Janda “reportedly compared Muslims to Nazis during a class lesson on bullying. The teacher allegedly stated that ‘just like Hitler,’ Muslims train their children from birth to give their lives to Allah and are raised to be martyrs. She also allegedly stated that Muslim children are raised and taught to ‘kill innocents.’”

One student told her father—a Muslim convert—about the discussion. The father contacted CAIR-WA instead of the school district or Janda, and in November, CAIR-WA contacted the school district and inquired about the incident.

Hawkings told Concrete Herald she conducted an investigation and responded to CAIR-WA with the results of the investigation, writing in an e-mail to CAIR-WA’s Civil Rights Coordinator Jennifer Gist, “We have completed our investigation. The incident did not involve any adopted curriculum. The building has been focused on bullying. We had participated in Rachel’s Challenge and staff, in conjunction with this national program, was relating stories, news items, or histories of people who have suffered at the hands of bullies as a reminder for all of us to be kind to each other. We welcome communication with the family.”

Janda has maintained that the student misinterpreted her remarks. In a letter written to Hawkings in December, Janda wrote, “When [the student] … said, ‘My father is a Muslim and these statements are not true,’ I explained to her that I was not talking about Arabs and Muslims in general, but groups that chose to impose their will by training people to intimidate and kill other people. This discussion was not about religious beliefs. It is related to a state mandate that public schools teach students about bullying and not allow it.”

In February, CAIR sent its request to the Dept. of Justice and has since requested public records from the Concrete School District, including the following, in addition to an investigation into the alleged incident:

  • Ensure that absolutely no retaliation occurs against the father, student, or any other parents (Hadrian noted that CAIR published the father’s name and the student’s photo on its Web site, while asking the media not to name the father or student).
  • Provide any and all documents related to the incident.
  • Clarify which textbooks and texts are used in the district.
  • Clarify which diversity trainings or cultural competency trainings teachers complete.
  • Clarify the religious accommodation policies of the district.
  • Institute CAIR-WA’s diversity training for all employees of Concrete School District.

The last item drew shouts of disapproval from the audience. Hooks broke in and said of CAIR’s requests, “In legal terms, that’s called ‘unreasonable.’”

“They care nothing about this incident,” said Hadian. “They care about their larger agenda: the advancement of Shari’ah law in America.” Shari’ah law is “the constitution of Islam,” he said.”

The town of Concrete rejected the bullying tactics of the CAIR Islamic advocacy group and the attitude of the townsfolk appeared to be summed up by one participant, Scott Richmond who declaimed: “Not in our town. Not with Mary Janda.”

It is heartening to see a town using their constitutional rights to speak up against Islamic bullies like CAIR and it contains a lesson for us in the UK. That lesson is that we must not stay silent in the face of Islamic bullying even when they smear you. People stood up in the town of Concrete and peacefully but forcefully and honestly spoke up against a threat to one of theirs and that is something that needs to happen elsewhere.

The politicians may be happy with appeasing Islamic bullies either through fear or for desire for votes, but many British citizens are, like the residents of Concrete, not happy about such appeasement and should speak out against it.

We must heed the example of the people of Concrete and speak up against Islamic bullying.

Good post, Fahrenheit. At last, a group of people with the guts to take on CAIR & the Justice Dept constitutionally. I’ve been to Washington State a number of times & there’s a big difference between the lib-left miasma that hangs over Seattle, & the clearer-headed populace outside. Events like this provide focus for the unease that many Americans feel when they see appeasement of an incompatible totalitarian ideology in their backyards. Metaphorically speaking, certain areas of the USA, particularly Washington DC, should be ‘Concreted over’.

Thank you for your compliment Maurice. The key thing is the people of Concrete decided that they would not be bullied by CAIR but did it constitutionally and peacefully. The actions of the town of Concrete should be seen as an example to be followed by small British towns and cities who are threatened by Islamic expansionism. The only reason the appeasers and useful idiots of the Diversity Industry in Britain get away with the imposition of Mosques and the promotion of Islamic expansionism is because the people lazily let them get away with it by not protesting.

It is good to see the ‘Islamophobia is Racism’ lie that is often peddled by the Diversity Industry being well and truly nailed by the people of this small, brave and inspirational town.

Great post! Yes, we are not taking their garbage anymore! I told the director of CAIR that his days of doing things unanswered in Washington were OVER!! Brits need to remember they got through some tough times with Churchill and Thatcher and you can do it again but you must find your voice and be willing to risk jail time. Be willing to take this to court! Be willing to hold your elected officials accountable and get involved in the process. We Americans are your offspring and you too are kin to us. Don’t bow down to an ideology that is so antithetical to British values! Do NOT repeat the same mistakes of Chamberlain. Your EDL is working hard to stand up. Support them peaceably! I have faith in you! My roots are in England and Northern Ireland and I know that if I can stand up to this – you can too! Cheers to my British brothers and sisters!

Dear Kerry, thank you very much for your compliment for the post. I’m glad to hear that people in the United States are waking up and not taking the bovine faeces of groups like CAIR anymore. I’m also pleased to hear that people are standing up and not letting CAIR and similar groups have their own way in Washington anymore.

We in the UK have been through tough times in the past but we have got through them often with the help of the great sacrifices and help of our friends and allies on your side of the Atlantic Ocean.

British legislation such as the 1985 Public Order Act and the 2006 Racial and Religious Hatred Act have done very little to improve the lot of minorities who have been disadvantaged in the past, but the sure have been a powerful weapon in the hands of Islamic apologists and Islamofascist groups. Cases like that of Peter Crawford who was prosecuted, but later cleared, for ripping up his OWN copy of the Koran have had a chilling effect on free speech in the United Kingdom. A generation of UK people have been cowed by legislation into not speaking up but this appears to be changing with more of us prepared not only to stand up and speak out but also defy the new British press censorship laws. See https://www.fahrenheit211.net/2012/12/22/time-for-the-dpp-to-put-his-money-where-is-mouth-is-regarding-free-speech/ and https://www.fahrenheit211.net/2013/03/18/this-blog-refuses-to-volunteer-to-be-licenced/

Unlike some, I consider myself a ‘constitutionalist’ (even though Britain doesn’t have a written constitution) and want to see the problems that Islam has brought to the UK dealt with legally and peacefully and without mobs of angry people carrying flaming torches. However this can only be done by changing the politicians, who can then in turn deal with the ‘Diversity Industry’ that infests local government and public services and acts as a Trojan Horse for Islam.

We British are learning to speak up and now 1 in 4 of us are prepared to say that Islam is not compatible with free societies. See http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2267515/Baroness-Warsi-Fewer-people-think-Islam-compatible-British-life.html

This is an amazingly high figure bearing in mind that we have had a whole generation brainwashed by the education system and the BBC to think that Islam is a religion of peace. As more people realise the damage that Islam has done this figure can only get higher. The fight against Islam in the UK is not going to be politically pretty but it is very, very necessary. The Left say that people like me incite ‘racism’ but we do not, many of us are just trying to incite people to vote for non racist parties that are prepared to tell the truth about Islam.

Many of us understand that although Chamberlain bought us time to re arm during the 1930’s, the policy of appeasement was a dreadful mistake and there is always the suspicion that if the Nazis had been confronted earlier millions of lives could have been saved.

We are sick of the appeasement of Islam and we are sick of the lies we have been told about it.

Some of us will be jailed or lose jobs or have our families snatched from us by social workers who are invariably of a left of centre bent but the price of not fighting will be much higher. A violent follower of Islam can only kill a person once, but if they turn from the fight and submit to the demands of Islamic slavery then they will die every day.

I disagree with some of the tactics of the EDL because street protests are very easy to contain by the police and demonise in the leftist media such as the BBC and the Guardian, which is why I prefer changing the politicians via the ballot box.

Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot.

I would like to end this comment by saying a very big thank you to the United States for having such a wonderful thing as the first amendment to your constitution which guarantees freedom of speech. Sadly blogs such as these have to be hosted in the United States in order to be out of reach of British law, if counterjihad blogs like this were hosted in the United Kingdom, then they would be quickly shut down by the authorities acting on complaints from Islamic groups. Your founding fathers and constitutional framers didn’t only set Americans free to speak their minds they are also freeing us in the UK as well.

Thank you Fahrenheit211 for the great post! This is just the opening round of a fight we did not ask for but we willing to take on. CAIR claims to be protecting the civil rights of the student and her family in this matter but successfully trampled all over Mary Janda’s civil rights. They are using this fine teacher to further their stealth jihad against free speech and using our education system to promote their agenda of sharia law here in America. The battle certainly isn’t over; CAIR has sympathizers in the community, who don’t see that they are being used. They’re looking at this through Western eyes and by means of political correctness they are selling the so-called victimhood of CAIR. We who are defending Mary are very passionate about calling out the injustice, ignorance, and absurdities that have been done to her and our community. We will fight and fight hard for Mary and our community. Thank you again for getting our story out the world.

“Thank you Fahrenheit211 for the great post! ”

Thank you for the kind compliment.

This is just the opening round of a fight we did not ask for but we willing to take on. CAIR claims to be protecting the civil rights of the student and her family in this matter but successfully trampled all over Mary Janda’s civil rights.

Like you, I didn’t want to fight (and really wish I didn’t feel I had to) but there has been so much Islamic bullying going on over here, similar to what your town is going through, and so much appeasement of it by UK politicians that I felt I had no choice but to speak up.

The experience that your teacher has been put through sounds very similiar to the experience people have had in the UK when they object to aspects of the ideology of Islam, the difference is up until recently people have been disinclined to stand up to the bullies both those of Islam and what is now, after 13 years of socialism, a very intrusive Government. People have been cowed by new laws brought in by the Labour Party and a general preference for grumbling rather than fighting. It most certainly sounds to me, and hopefully to any other reasonable person, that Mary Janda has had her civil rights violated. This whole case screams Islamic bullying and false victimhood claiming from CAIR and it is very inspiring to see your town stand up to it.

They are using this fine teacher to further their stealth jihad against free speech and using our education system to promote their agenda of sharia law here in America.

It certainly seems like it. That’s why free speech must be defended even if speech is offensive. At least you’ve got free speech still, here in Britain we have the ludicrous situaiton where people have gone to jail for telling an off colour joke on Twitter or been arrested for calling a policeman’s horse, ‘gay’.

      The battle certainly isn’t over;

I’m very glad to hear it. 🙂

CAIR has sympathizers in the community, who don’t see that they are being used. They’re looking at this through Western eyes and by means of political correctness they are selling the so-called victimhood of CAIR.

That is so very true. The sympathisers are a big problem. A lot of them are very naive and believe that promoting Islam is helping ‘diversity’. However they fail to see that an excess of Islam in an area kills that very diversity. We have people like this dude leaching off of the British Taxpayer https://www.fahrenheit211.net/2012/09/18/herefordshires-useful-idiot-neville-meredith-community-integration-and-race-equality-development-officer/

I’m trying to educate the Islamic sympathisers that I come across and I find that quite often the less they know about Islam the more willing they are to be sympathetic. Education as to the nature of Islam and what it does when it gains control or influence is essential to get people to think about exactly what they are supporting.

“We who are defending Mary are very passionate about calling out the injustice, ignorance, and absurdities that have been done to her and our community. We will fight and fight hard for Mary and our community. Thank you again for getting our story out the world.”

It is indeed an injustice and story that deserves a wide retelling. It is a pleasure to help publicise your fight because we sadly have to fight a common enemy again, but this time it is the ideology of Islam.

      Keep fighting.

      Eric

If there is a fighting fund appeal for Mary Janda would you like me to feature it on this blog?
