When decent people start getting censored then a line has most surely been crossed.

The You Tuber Dave Rubin

The American You Tube political and cultural commentator Dave Rubin is the quintessential ‘Liberal’s liberal’. A more fair minded and open minded person it would be difficult to find. Mr Rubin’s ‘Rubin Report’ show gets high audiences and he has interviewed people of both the political Right and the political Left. Mr Rubin has treated all his interviewees no matter what their political persuasion with politeness and dignity but has never pulled back from asking difficult questions of them, often doing so in an intelligent and thoughtful way.

If there is one person whose voice should be heard in a civilised democratic society it is intelligent gay liberals such as Mr Rubin. But it seems that not even Mr Rubin’s defence of the classical liberal mindset of freedom of speech and of debate, or his exemplary manner in how he treats people, cannot save him from the social justice warrior censorship cadre that seem to decide what is and what is not acceptable on the You Tube platform.

Mr Rubin has apparently been ‘demonetised’ and told that no advertising will run on his videos. This doesn’t apply to one or two of the many informative and interesting videos that Mr Rubin has made, but to nearly all of them. According to Truth Revolt, a conservative outlet in the United States, Mr Rubin has had 90% of his videos subjected to what is financial censorship.

Here’s what Truth Revolt said about Mr Rubin’s You Tube demonetisation.

Truth Revolt said:

Google continues ramping up its censorship game with further demonetizations of its YouTube videos with political content the web oligarch finds offensive. More and more targets are conservative and Christian in nature and these entities, which rely so much on ad revenue to continue providing content, are trying to figure out what is going on.

One of the latest victims is political talk show host Dave Rubin, who says that 90% of his YouTube videos for “The Rubin Report” have been financially censored by Google, which owns the video platform.

You know, the word ‘demon’ is in demonetize and I can tell you as someone that is dealing with some of this stuff, that it appears, at least, that there’s some pretty shady stuff going on,” Rubin told Tucker Carlson on Fox News.

I don’t want to fight Google and YouTube,” he said. “I want that platform to work… and [to be] treated fairly.”

Rubin’s videos are wide-ranging. He has guests like our very own David Horowitz, but he also talks with leftists and covers topics including religion and science. Rubin said almost his entire back catalog has been censored on YouTube and he’s unable to make any ad revenue from views.

I posted one video today. It was with a YouTuber by the name of Phil DeFranco, one of the original YouTubers,” Rubin said. “They demonetized that. This is one of their top creators that’s been on there forever.”

Carlson read a statement sent by Google that denied Rubin’s claims and stated 90% of the videos are fully monetized and only 10% are not, “because they contain discussions of adult topics… pornography, ISIS” and other topics “advertisers find objectionable.”

That’s simply not true,” Rubin said. He insisted that he checked just prior to speaking with Carlson and the majority of his videos were still in the demonetized state, including those with Larry Elder and human rights activist and Islam critic Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Carlson called Google’s censorship “ominous” and “scary.”

Fox’s Tucker Carlson is correct in his assessment of the situation, it is indeed ominous and scary. When a nation or a communications platform starts to harass and censor classical liberals such as Mr Rubin then something is not right. It is possible to understand from a moral point of view, a platform for example removing or restricting an ISIS account or someone calling for murder. But this restriction on Mr Rubin makes no sense at all. Mr Rubin is not a hatemonger or somone whom advertisers may not wish to be associated with, he’s a damned liberal for crying out loud. A dangerous Rubicon has been crossed by the demonetisation of Mr Rubin and it may well accelerate the exodus from the tech giants such as Google, You Tube, Twitter and Facebook, onto more secure and less censorious platforms such as Minds, Gabai, Vidme and a growing number of others.

To hit out at someone like Mr Rubin who is as about as inoffensively liberal as one can get, shows that these tech giants have overreached themselves and in their arrogance have revealed to a much wider audience their bleakly intolerant censorious nature. When the oppressor comes for the liberals then it’s a sign of a society or even an internet platform, going very bad indeed.
