Quiz: What do these three stories have in common?

Here are three stories from the continent of Asia. One from Israel, one from Bangladesh and one from Sri Lanka. They involve violence being aimed at Jews, Hindus and Buddhists. Why not see what the common denominator is in all of them.

First the Israeli story

A 12-year-old Israeli boy was knocked unconscious and nearly drowned after an unidentified Palestinian terrorist threw a rock at his head at the Abraham’s Well spring in the Tel Rumeida neighborhood of Hebron.

Security camera footage shows a Palestinian man throwing a large rock at a group of Jewish children near the spring and then fleeing the scene.

The boy who was hit by the rock lost consciousness and fell into the water. Others at the scene pulled the unconscious child out of the spring.

Now we go to Bangladesh

Police have detained six people, including a local leader of ruling Awami League, on charges of vandalising idols at a Hindu temple at Atrai Upazila in Naogaon.

The six are Mirat union Awami League Organising Secretary Shaheedul Islam, 46, Polash Khan, 25, ‘Polash’, 28, ‘Kamal’, 32, Swapan Islam, 37, and Ratan Khandaker, 33.

Atrai Police Station OC Mobarak Hossain said the law enforcers detained them after finding their involvement in the vandalism of the idols following a dispute with the Hindus at the neighbourhood over control of an irrigation project at Barhakalipur village.

Referring to witnesses’ accounts, the OC said the two sides held a meeting next to a Kali Temple in the village on Friday night to settle the dispute, but the meeting ended with a scuffle between the groups.

The locals called police after they saw the idols were broken early in the morning.

“We’ve detained the six after finding their involvement in the vandalism in the initial investigation,” the OC said.

Finally we visit the island of Sri Lanka

Riot police and army troops have been deployed in southern Sri Lanka following an outbreak of violence between Buddhists and Muslims, and a curfew has been imposed for the second night running.

Nineteen people were arrested when clashes erupted in Galle province, after a traffic accident.

Homes and businesses were attacked and several properties damaged.

Authorities say the sectarian violence has now been brought under control.

“Additional police battalions, the police Special Task Force, the anti-riot squad and the military were called in last night to bring the situation under control,” Law and Order Minister Sagala Ratnayaka said in a statement.

Although these stories deal with different incidents in different places and with violence aimed at different groups, there is one common denominator to all of them. Can you guess what it is yet? That’s right, it’s Islam. In each of these cases we have Muslims, inspired by their foetid and supremacist ideology, attacking members of other groups or desecrating their property or their religious buildings.

At this point I feel I have to say ‘not all Muslims’ are fascistic hate filled murderers, but we would be foolish not to admit that a sizeable minority are such wrong ‘uns. , It is remarkable is it not that in so many disparate places and for so many different reasons, these incidents are all categorised by outbreaks of Islamic violence. Islam as a religion of peace? Don’t make me laugh.
