Friday Night Movie Number 7 – The Last Days of Sophie Scholl

This is a biopic of Sophie Scholl a brave young woman, who with others, tried to get Germans in the 1940’s to rise up against the Nazis who were leading Germany to physical, moral, national and cultural destruction.

This is not a film that has a happy ending but then the stories of many people who have stood up against oppression also do not have happy endings.

One of the things I admire about this film is how it shows Ms Scholl to be totally committed to her Judaeo-Christian morality and how she was determined to judge all people by the content of their character and not whether or not they were Aryan or non-Aryan.

The film shows Sophie Sholl and her associates planning and executing non-violent counter-Nazi actions and also how they were arrested and their ultimate fate.

This is a very moving film and the prison, courtroom and Interrogation scenes are disturbing and very well done.

This movie should also remind people that fighting oppressive ideologies, whether they be Communism, Fascism or Islamism involves a cost. Those who are not prepared to pay a cost should really just keep their heads down and accept being a slave, with all that entails.  Sophie Scholl and her group, the White Rose, were not prepared to do this, nor accept the slavery of Nazism, and spoke out and because of that became martyrs for freedom.

Please note that this film is split up into eight separate 15 minute video files separated by rather annoying adverts. Click link below to access film.
