The ‘Boy Owen’s schoolboy error about Islam

The Guardian writer Owen Jones. Sensible people find his utterances are a source of extreme amusement

The Guardian writer Owen Jones is not so much a purveyor of serious and erudite political thought, but more a source of amusement for those of us who marvel at his disconnection from reality. He is the very epitome of the modern Middle Class Leftist. You must the type, you know the ones who declare that they are on the side of Britain’s working classes, whilst at the same time calling for policies, such as porous border migration policies and multiculturalism, that hurt the working class.

It was Owen Jones remember who flounced off of a Sky News programme which he appeared on with Ms Julia Hartley-Brewer, following the Islamic attack on the Pulse nightclub shooting in Florida a few years back after claiming that the attack was due to homophobia and not Islam. It was also Owen Jones, who after the recent pro-Brexit march in London earlier this month, who was caught out by Sargon of Akkad and others being economical with the truth over the details of both the Brexit march and its counter-protestors from the Left. Yes, Owen Jones is a veritable gold mine of left wing comedic political bullshit.

Now Mr Jones is coming to public attention again over some more of his utterances and is being heavily criticised on social media for them. In an article Owen Jones wrote for the gay magazine Attitude, he claims that as gay people have been oppressed in the past, then it is the duty of gay people to stand up for others who are ‘oppressed’. This is a schoolboy error on Owen Jones’ part. Although it would be quite normal to feel empathy for those who are oppressed, especially when one comes from a background that has historically been targetted for oppression, there is no moral right to alleviate said oppression.

This is especially the case when the group that Owen Jones is claiming is oppressed, Muslims, follow an ideology that is murderously opposed to homosexuality and one that controls countries where the penalty for being gay is death. It is not a moral thing to do to claim that those who would, if they had the reins of power in their hands, kill you, are an oppressed group worthy of and deserving of defending.

There are lots of groups out there that could fashion a claim that they are oppressed in some way. Having observed the antics on social media of Communists and National Socialists I have noticed that both groups to a certain extent believe that they are ‘victimised’ and ‘oppressed’ by the wider society. Although both groups could validly claim that they are despised by the majority of British society, that doesn’t make them victims. Like Islam, if the followers of Communism or National Socialism had the whip hand then they would be the oppressors. This is the lunacy of the attempt by Owen Jones to paint Muslims and Islam as a victim class. They are not, Islam, like the other forms of totalitarianism of the Communists and the Na Docs, are merely oppressors in waiting. We would not put a weapon in the hands of a Communist or a National Socialist, or give them positive support, on the grounds that nobody liked them and because of that they were oppressed. To do that would be madness. It is similarly mad for gay people to blindly support Islam and Muslims just because a few generations or so ago, gay people in Britain were oppressed

Owen Jones is under the misapprehension that Islam is respectful of things like mutuality. That if gays line up to protect Muslims from both hurty words and physical attack, then Muslims will bow to the great deity of ‘Diversity’ and all will live together in harmony. Like bollocks it will. The more that gays of the Left treat Islam as some sort of victim class the worse off things will be for gay people. We only have to look at the situation in East London to see the truth in my statement. There was once a thriving gay scene in East London in areas like Aldgate, Limehouse and in the docks area of what is now the London Borough of Newham. It was the place to go for gay pubs and was an area where gays were somewhat tolerated even before the Wolfenden Reforms that decriminalised consensual gay sex. However, as Islam has become more of a presence in the area life has got worse for gays in these areas. The once thriving scene of gay pubs is now nearly completely gone, deprived of business because potential customers did not want to risk getting kicked in by the gay hating Muslims who now ruled the streets. Like Owen Jones, some of the gays in the area probably thought they could live and work alongside the Muslims in a spirit of mutuality, but Islam would not do that and so ends at least three quarters of a century of gay life in East London.

Sure, I’ve met plenty of gay Muslims over the years, some of them have been religious and some have left Islam altogether. Some of them have come from relatively liberal families who have accepted their sexuality and others have had a much harder time. But whatever background they came from and whatever their experience, what they all had in common was that they understood that there was a violent undercurrent to Islamic gay hatred. They understood, as also I understand but Owen Jones does not, that although the Western world has moved on and we no longer execute people for sodomy like we did up until 1835, there are still all too many Muslims who wish to kill gays.

Owen Jones comes over as really naive in his Attitude piece. He gives the impression that any help that gays render to the Muslim community will be reciprocated by the Islamic community as a whole. On this I’m afraid that Owen Jones is very much mistaken. It’s much more likely that an Islam that was protected and enabled by the gay left would turn on that same gay left as soon as they got the power to do so. Helping Islam is as mad a thing for a gay person, or any civilised person to do in fact, as giving a helping hand to the authoritarians of Communism of National Socialism. It’s difficult to decide after reading Owen Jones’ piece whether he really believes this naive crap about oppressed peoples mutually supporting each other, or if he is trying to manoeuvrer himself into being the last chucked off of the roof if Islam ever gained power in Britain.

I’ve seen and heard Owen Jones come out with some crap in the past but this is probably the most naive and risible thing I’ve seen him write. If gays in any appreciable number followed the recommendations of Owen Jones on the matter of Islam, then they would bring their own community into harms way. Sensible gay people know to be suspicious of Islam and Owen Jones is the very opposite of a sensible British gay person. Owen Jones has been mocked widely for his Attitude piece and in my opinion he really deserves the mockery that he is getting.
