Yesterday and today are the main days when many Britons take time out to remember those who fought and died for this country and others who have served in the British military. These are by necessity and nature, solemn days, especially for those of us who had now dead relatives who served in Her Majesty’s and His Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Now not everyone takes part in acts of Rememberance, whether or not to take part is a matter of personal conscience and although I wear a Rememberance Poppy, I don’t agree with the ‘poppy fascism’ that says we MUST wear a poppy. However, basic common sense and morality should lead even those who don’t agree with acts of rememberance to leave alone those who do want to remember.

There was recently a disgusting act that took place up in Eccles in Greater Manchester that went way beyond a person merely ignoring Rememberance Day and instead crossed the line into disrupting the two minuite silence by letting off fireworks. The person who let these fireworks off has been named in the press and on social media as a squatter called Stuart Potts.

Potts was the subject of anger from the crowd of military veterans and others after he let the fireworks off and there were angry scenes outside a closed down pub where Potts appears to have been living. Potts has been denounced for his act of moronic stupidity and has been charged by the police with public order offences and with letting off fireworks in a public place.

This was not only an incredibly disrespectful thing to do during the two minuites silence, it was also dangerous as it could have caused panic. With the country facing ever more incidents of Islamic terror, for Potts to let off fireworks of anything else that could go ‘bang’, his activities could have caused those attending the Rememberance Day parade to panic thinking that the explosions were terrorism related.

Stuart Potts has behaved like a complete moron and it seems that he is going to face some punishment for his moronic behaviour.
