From Elsewhere: The Pakistani ‘Me Too’ movement.

Is there change coming to Pakistan? I certainly hope so. My hope about change for this benighted land ruled by some of the worst forms of Islam on the planet is raised by a recent video put out by the ex-Muslim atheist Harris Sultan.

Mr Sultan has examined the recent furore in Pakistan about the depraved behaviour of Muslim scholars teaching in Islamic Maddrassa schools. There have been complaints about the sexual abuse of boys attending these schools, complaints that might have been buried or pushed under the carpet in the past, but which are now getting wider publicity and attention.

One case in particular of an Imam who made broadcasts that were condemnatory of what he saw as moral failure by Pakistanis but who was later accused of sexual abuse, has caught the imagination of Pakistanis. The voices being raised about such hypocrisy have been described by Mr Sultan as reaching ‘outrage’ status.

It’s well worth watching this short eight minute video to learn more from Mr Sultan about how revelations about what has been going on in maddrassas are motivating Pakistanis to voice their condemnation of what has gone on.
