  1. I dunno, I think though the BBC issue is a bit complex. Most developed countries have a ‘public broadcasting’ network along with commercial stations, funded in various ways either by a licence fee or out of direct taxation. I see no reason why the UK should dismantle the BBC and lose its world status. The £159 p.a. licence fee I understand works out at about £2.50 a week, hardly the price of a hot dinner for one family or two pints of lager and a packet of crisps at supermarket prices.

If I want to watch other channels but not the BBC I can opt out of paying it then can I?

Honest, fair, impartial and trustworthy public sector broadcasting is in my view a good thing. Sadly the BBC is becoming less and less like that. There’s very little I want from the BBC apart from Ceebeebies and even then I cringe at some of the wokery that pops up on it now and then. I don’t want their bent news, neither their depressing soap operas, nor the drama and cultural output of the BBC’s left wing middle class monothought clique or the desperately non-offensive and deeply unfunny BBC comedies. I don’t want it so why should I be forced to pay for it?
