Another massive UK Government failure.

Lord Hermer the current UK Attorney General and a man who is damaging US/UK intelligence cooperation.

All governments, at least those in Britain, fail either completely or partially at some point in their administrative term. All governments make mistakes, some forced and some unforced and all governments will have those within it who might not be up to their jobs. Governments are made up of human beings and humans are infinitely fallible. Every government that I’ve been aware of in my lifetime have made errors some serious and some not but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a government that has made so many errors, have had so many wrong priorities and have had so many wrong’uns in high positions.

One thing that a UK government should not do is piss off our allies, especially when that ally is the United States. Sadly this is what the UK government has done. The UK Government has suspended some intelligence sharing with the US over the issue of the US military attacking drug smugglers at sea in the Caribbean and has called the US action ‘extra judicial killings’. This is a bad move on the part of His Majesty’s Government not just because it looks like interference in law enforcement of a sovereign nation, the USA, but because it fails to understand the context of these attacks on smugglers.

That context is this. The USA has a very serious problem with what in the UK would be called ‘Class A drugs’ such as cocaine, heroin, fentanyl and much more being clandestinely imported into the USA. These drugs, especially fentanyl are devastating US cities and US families. The problems with drugs like fentanyl are so serious that they are beyond the scope of any harm reduction policies that might work in other circumstances and with those addicted to other drugs such as heroin. Yes I know that there are those who get addicted to some drugs because of hopelessness, despair and a lack of other means for individuals to find internal self-fulfilment and give them a sense of purpose. I also know that there are social problems in the USA, too often created by the political classes there, that have created the conditions that lead people down the path of destruction that fentanyl etc takes them along and into the abyss. The problems with Class A drugs in the US are now so serious and so societally damaging that the US government and law enforcement are having to take extreme measures to interdict the import of these drugs into the USA.

Attacking the boats carrying these drugs into the USA is probably the best way to stop individual shipments getting to the US and to try at the very least to make transport of these drugs via the Caribbean more difficult and less attractive to the traffickers. Because of the nature of these smugglers who are often armed and desperate, any softly softly approach to this problem is doomed to failure. A more robust approach is what the US government has decided is needed even though this policy is going to inevitably cause deaths among the smugglers.

Step forward Lord Richard Hermer the UK Attorney General who is said to have been instrumental in the decision to cease some intelligence cooperation with the US over the killing of drug traffickers at sea. According to the Guido Fawkes site in the UK it was Hermer who is responsible for making the decision, based on his reading of ‘international law’, to suspend intelligence cooperation with the USA over the issue of interdicting drug traffickers in the Caribbean.

Guido Fawkes said:

Attorney General Richard Hermer has been blamed for the suspension of SIGINT intelligence-sharing with the United States over the killing of drug-dealers in the Caribbean.Only Hermer could demolish Five Eyes…

Security sources tell Guido the order came directly from the human rights-obsessed Hermer. UK signals are no longer going to the Joint Interagency Task Force South stationed in Florida. UN human rights chief Volker Türk said that the strikes violate international law and amount to “extrajudicial killing,” an interpretation contested by the US. At the post-PMQs huddle Starmer’s spokesman did not deny that the instruction had come from Hermer.

It’s pretty disgraceful that Hermer has based his decision on statements made by the UN Human Rights chief despite the UN being an organisation that is increasingly hostile to US and British interests and Western interests in general. However maybe we should not have expected better from a lawyer who has seemingly chosen to represent some of the worst of the worst offenders, terrorists and gangsters imaginable.

This decision is I’m afraid going to rebound badly on the UK. Like it or not we as a nation need to cooperate with the United States on matters such as intelligence as many of those who are considered as enemies of the US are also enemies of Britain. We need an unimpeded flow of intelligence from the USA that allows us to go after the terrorists, gangsters and other criminals who are as much a threat to us as they are to America. This sort of decision could do great damage to the Five Eyes intelligence sharing set up and could end up denying the UK intelligence that allows Britain to tackle the terrorists and others that are a threat to us. It’s not beyond the bounds of possibility that the Americans may decide that a tit for tat approach is needed to bring the likes of Hermer and the UK PM Sir Keir Starmer to heel and deny the UK the intelligence we need to keep the country safe.

Hermer’s virtue signalling might end up with terrible end results. If the US deny to the UK intelligence related to terrorism or gang related activity or other serious crime we could end up with a situation where Britons die because of this lack of intelligence. If there is blood on our streets because of Hermer’s idiotic decision then it will be Hermer and those like him who will have the blood of innocent people on their hands.

Starmer needs to pull his finger out and show the Americans that Hermer is a rogue actor in government but the personal relationship between Starmer and Hermer is so close (Hermer funded Starmer’s Labour leadership campaign in 2020) that such an action is unlikely. As long as Starmer is PM it’s unlikely that Hermer will be removed from office and replaced with someone more competent, less virtue signalling and more realistic about the need to keep allies onside. Therefore Starmer by keeping Hermer in place is going to end up damaging not just UK -US relations but also endanger the lives and safety of millions of Britons. This is a very very bad situation and one that should never ever have been allowed to come about. Hermer’s decision and Starmer’s decision to go along with Hermer’s decision is without a doubt going to have some serious negative consequences for Britain and for Britons.

  1. You missed out the first word of the title: Should’ve started with “YET”.

Of course. This shower of shit are giving us a massive government failure every damned day.

  2. Drug producers, smugglers and dealers have ZERO respect for ANY “human rights”, including the most fundamental one – the “right to life”. They know they are deliberately harming and killing people with their drugs. They are certainly involved with “extrajudicial killing” – actually I would call it mass murder.
Consequently I have ZERO respect for them, and ZERO concern over them losing their lives as a consequence of their actions.
I’d like to see the US blow up every boat and sink every drug-running submarine.

I’ve been a bit of a libertarian in the past about what people do to or put in their bodies but stuff like Fentanyl which is wrecking American towns and cities is a different matter. I find it difficult to make any sort of case for allowing Fentanyl to be freely available because of the extreme level of damage it does often in a very short time. America has a problem with Fentanyl some of which may have been pushed into American society by America’s enemies and it is such a major problem that America should interdict smugglers forcefully.

As an aside I sometimes wonder if we’ve seen the rise in use of stuff like Fentanyl and Meth because traditional drugs got harder and harder to obtain because of the War on Drugs? Did heavy restrictions on stuff like Heroin and Cocaine, which had been a part although a small part of American society for decades prior to this war, create or partially create a market for Fentanyl and Meth?

  3. As always, Starmer and that poisonous toad Hermer are silent concerned with the “human rights” of the criminals, cartels and drug barons, just as they and fellow “human rights lawyers” are so exercised at the rights of Hamas and Fakestinian terrorists, rapists and Jew haters.
It has long been a pattern with the Leftists to defend the indefensible, just as they did when the IRA were bombing Britain and the PLI were hijacking and murdering they way around the world.

  4. Agree totally with your post, just one question though…..

What evidence do you have to suggest Hermer ( or Starmer for that matter) care about safety of British people? Their career arcs and conduct over the last 14 months suggest the opposite.

Hermer and Starmer care prinarily about themselves and their ideologies, there’s little evidence I can see that they care about ordinary British people. If they did then they would be promoting policies that did help ordinary Britons and not others or themselves or their ideologies.
