To my readers in the Falkland Islands ‘Happy Margaret Thatcher Day’

It’s Margaret Thatcher Day in the Falkland Islands, instituted in 1992 to celebrate the liberation of the Falklands from the Argentinian invaders.

The Trending Central blog said:

It is difficult of course, because it is the first Margaret Thatcher Day since the Baroness’s passing on April 8th of last year – an occasion that marked a truly sad event for conservatives and freedom-lovers across the entire world.

But instead of mourning, we should use this day as the Falklanders have for thirty-one years: to mark the anniversary of Prime Minister Thatcher’s visit to the islands, where she was awarded “the Honorary Freedom of Stanley and all Townships and Settlements throughout the Falkland Islands” in gratitude for her leadership in the liberation of the islands from Argentinean armed forces.”

We should also use this day to remember all the British soldiers, sailors and aircrew, who fought to recapture the Islands, too many of whom did not return, or returned wounded in body and heart.
