Why no national media coverage of the latest Islamic Grooming Gang trial?

Many years ago I worked as a Court Reporter covering criminal trials and civil cases. The news agencies I worked for knew our market and knew what the papers would buy, and more importantly what they would not buy. For example we knew that the Guardian would not buy long detailed stories of rape cases and we knew that the tabloids would not buy stories of black on black murders or rapes.

This may look racist or discriminatory to some today, but times were different, and for those I worked for it was purely a commercial decision not to cover such stories. We could not afford to waste resources on a murder story about two poverty stricken West Indians killing each other over a woman or a drug deal or whatever when we knew we could not sell the story to any newspaper. We were told that child killings, big robberies, fraud where there was an interesting victim or perpetrator and bizarre domestic murders were what the papers wanted to buy so we concentrated on these sort of cases. All news outlets have a house style or agenda or target market and we were just fitting in with these in order to sell our stories. This policy was not one that I agreed with but in short there was no point in flogging a dead horse when there was a live one standing there that was likely to win the Grand National.

This brings me onto the subject of a major Islamic Grooming Gang trial that is ongoing at Stafford Crown Court. There has been very little coverage of this case in the national media and as there is an appetite to read about such stories by the public I cannot see how there is a commercial imperative to not publish this story in particular and others like it. Yes, there are other things going on such as the Euro election but surely reporting on a case where six Muslim men are accused of sexually exploiting a 15 year old girl is something that would not only be interesting to the public but would also be in the public interest?

What has piqued my interest in this is that there doesn’t appear to be any legal reason why this case cannot be reported more widely? There are no reporting restrictions other than those usual ones that forbid the publication of details that may identify the victim. The case is being covered by local newspaper media but there appears to have been barely a word about this in national media.

The excellent and doughty counterjihad blogger Kafircrusader is carrying the story even if the national press and electronic media are not, and the lack of coverage by media outlets with national coverage is leading some to suspect that mainstream media organisations may be ignoring this story and those like it for political or spurious ‘community cohesion’ reasons. Maybe the editors have been told not to make a big thing of these Islamic Grooming Gang stories in order to keep members of the public in the dark about how widespread such offences are. Cases like Rochdale and Rotherham were so huge and generated so much revulsion that I would not be surprised if pro-Islamic and pro-multiculti politicians put pressure on editors to pass over such stories in order to prevent public revulsion at the growing number of Islamic Grooming Gangs from bursting out either politically in the form of support for anti Jihad political candidates or as public disorder.

Kafircrusader quoting from the Burton Mail newspaper said:

A TEENAGE schoolgirl at the centre of a sexual exploitation case has given evidence against her alleged attackers.

The 15-year-old from Burton addressed the courtroom from behind a screened curtain at Stafford Crown Court where the case is being heard.

Charges have been brought against six Burton men who are alleged to have come into contact with the girl during 2012 and 2013 while she was aged 14 and 15.

Umber Farrouq, 21, of Belvedere Road, Anees Hanif, 19, of Norfolk Road, Haroon Hafeez, 18, of Waterloo Street, and Matab Ali, 21, of Gordon Street, all face charges of sexual activity with a child.

Ameer Arshad, 18, of Waterloo Street, faces allegations of causing or inciting a child to engage is sexual activity and blackmail.

Junaid Ali, 20, of Shobnall Street, faces allegations of attempted rape, while Hanif is also charged with causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. They all deny the charges.

The court heard that the girl told police officers she twice had sex with Farrouq in October 2012.

But Farrouq’s defence solicitor Balraj Bhatia said claims made the by girl about phone calls between the pair were inconsistent and the pair never had sex.

Hanifs’ defence solicitor, Simon Ripon, challenged the girl over her version of events, in which she claimed they had sex four times.

It is alleged Ali attempted to rape the girl at her home after Hanif introduced the pair last spring.

In a video interview with child protection officers played out to the court, the girl claimed Hanif told her they ‘always shared girls’.

Lefi Tsiattalou, defending for Ali, disputed this and pointed to a police document in which the girl said nothing had happened between the pair.

The girl said she initially had not raised allegations against Ali because she ‘did not want any trouble with him’.

The trial continues.

Kafircrusader commented:

Once again the mainstream media have chose to ignore a Muslim grooming gang trial. The trial is currently ongoing at Stafford Crown Court and involves six Muslims from Burton On Trent. The only coverage is from the local newspaper,  Burton Mail.

The public have a right to know about the Muslim grooming epidemic happening across the UK. Keeping reports at a local level only stops the public being able to see the big picture.  You cant make a fuss or speak out about things that you don’t even know have happened

The Muslims on trial are:

  • Umber Farrouq, 21, of Belvedere Road,
  • Anees Hanif, 19, of Norfolk Road,
  • Haroon Hafeez, 18, of Waterloo Street,
  • Matab Ali, 21, of Gordon Street,
  • Ameer Arshad, 18, of Waterloo Street,
  • Junaid Ali, 20, of Shobnall Street,

One of the Muslims on trial had previously been on trial for a Muslim honour crime. Umber Farrouq held the view that his sister Shagufta’s wedding without the family blessing ‘disrespected their culture.

He armed himself with a cricket bat when he found outcast Shagufta visiting another sister, Myra Kauser, who had been through an arranged marriage which the family approved of.

Shagufta went round to Mrs Kauser’s house with her husband and baby on the night of January 29. Farrouq had been invited along  with his mother, but arrived earlier than expected. When he discovered his exiled sister was inside, he went home and returned minutes later with a cricket bat before launching an onslaught of violence and abusive language.

Farrouq received a nine-month community order with a requirement to complete 24 hours at an attendance centre. Farrouq was also told to pay £85 in costs.”

Kafircrusader is correct. The British people DO deserve better, we DO deserve to know about these cases where groups of Muslims are accused of alllegedly being involved in horrific rapes, sexual assaults and sexual exploitation. I believe that information about the growing number of these Islamic Grooming Gang cases is being suppressed by the national mainstream media for political reasons and not for other commercial or journalistic reasons.
