Save lives – stop the boats

Stopping these boats would be a win-win all round.

According to the International Organisation of Migration there has been a sharp rise, 42%, in drownings of illegal migrants in the Mediterranean Sea. These are deaths that in my opinion could have been avoided by having a proper policy of harsh interdiction of illigal migrant boats. As long as there is a chance that these migrants will be picked up and brought to Europe by some well-meaning but foolish NGO or an equally foolish national navy, then the attempts to cross will be made.

There needs to be harsh interdiction, even if it is at the cost of some migrant lives, of these boats and that is for two reasons. Firstly if these boats are aggressively prevented from getting away from the North African coast and it becomes known that there will be no chance of them entering Europe illegally, then it will become more costly to the large numbers of individuals who wish to make the crossing. This will save migrant lives. The less people who attempt the trip then lesser will be the number who will drown. Even if deaths occur during the harsh interdiction of these boats it would still be likely to be much less than would have occurred had the crossing gone ahead.

Secondly a large number of those crossing the Med are not exactly conducive to the public good. These migrants have contained a very large element of people who mean us harm or who have no intention of contributing to our societies. All too often these migrants have turned out to be muggers, rapists, thieves, paedophiles and jihadists. We neither need or want such people and it would very much aid our security if these people were kept out.

Harshly interdicting these migrant boats, with naval firepower if necessary, will take the lives of some migrants but it would deter a great many more. This group of migrants are also not the ‘innocent tiny children’ as some NGO’s and campaigners for open borders claim they are. This group of migrants are also not the modern day analogue of the Kindertransport, which must qualify as one of the most breathtakingly dishonest claim ever. Those who cross the Med illegally also turn out all too often to be violent, aggressive men of military age and who have brought a high degreee of crime and terror to Europe. They are also often men from highly backward and misogynistic cultures, such as Islam and that all too obviously to many now, poses a danger to all of us in Europe.

Stopping these boats would save lives, both the lives of the migrants and our lives. It needs to be done soon and with vigour by the respective military authorities. A number of these migrants are crossing the Med with the intention of killing us and it behoves us to be sensible and prudent to prioritise our security and get up a bit earlier
