A Lib Dem leader who so obviously cannot read the room or gauge public mood.

The Liberal Democrats are a party that I would never vote for. I did once and got burned when the LD in question promptly crossed the floor in a council election and joined Labour. I’ve also seen how this party is often less than frank with the public and tries to be all things to all men and how it says one thing in one area and quite another thing in another area.

The best description I can find for the Lib Dems is ‘Janus faced’. They are also a party that is significantly out of touch with the public and public opinion as could be witnessed over their stance on Brexit. I dislike this party so much that if my ballot paper offered me the chance between voting for a Lib Dem candidate or voting for a turd flinging chimpanzee from my local zoo, then I’d choose the turd flinging chimp.

I knew that the Lib Dems were quite badly out of touch with public opinion with regards things like Brexit and migration, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Lib Dem so badly fail to ‘read the room’ or public opinion as what I saw on the Twitter feed of the Welsh Lib Dem leader. It is a masterpiece example of promoting a policy or a cause that appears to have little or no traction or support among voters or potential voters.

The Welsh Lib Dem leader, Jane Dodds, decided that it would be a good idea to put out a Tweet whining about the ‘terrible conditions’ that illegal migrants are being held in at the former Army camp, Penally Barracks. It’s quite obvious from the Tweet that Ms Dodds is some sort of naive ‘refugees welcome’ type as she has not only condemned conditions for illegals in the Penally Barracks, but has also praised US President Joe Biden for his open borders ‘refugee’ policy. At first I thought this was a parody account set up to mock the Lib Dems but sadly it appears on closer examination to be genuine.

Ms Dodds original Tweet read thus:

If Ms Dodds thought that she was going to get inundated with support for her view that these illegals deserved better accommodation than was given to members of Britain’s armed forces, the she was woefully mistaken.

Looking at how divorced Ms Dodds is from public opinion is it any wonder that the Lib Dems are held in such poor regard?

Below are just a few screenshots of some of the responses that she got. I’ve spun through much of the thread, which at the time of writing stood at 1,100 responses and they are overwhelmingly negative and critical of the ‘refugees welcome’ stance of Ms Dodds.

I am sure that the immigrant community who read the Guardian and watch the BBC for its unmediated antagonism to the majority British public adored her.

She’s probably very popular with the ‘woke’ middle class Left, but as she’s finding out, this is not a majority. I must admit that being the party of extreme minority concerns such as open borders and anti Brexit is a sad end for what was once a great and venerable party with roots going back centuries.

  2. The major point here, is that the “Open Borders” types are not in the least bit interested in refugees: If they were, then they would have a “priority list” of those to whom refuge should be offered, and by whom.

The top priority would be people facing outright slaughter such as Christians in parts of Africa, genocide by kidnap, rape, and forced marriage such as the Yazidi in Syria and Iraq, Christians, Hindus, and Sikhs in parts of Pakistan, white South African farmers, whatever is left of the Jewish population in the worst parts of the Middle East and North Africa, and – increasingly – in some European cities etc etc.

If presented with a coach-load of African and Pakistani Christians such as Asia Bibi desperate for refuge, I am perfectly certain that the Wokerati would look at them with a mixture of bewilderment, indignation, and anger, and tell them “When we say refugees, we don’t mean REAL refugees, you pathetic islamophobes !

How very dare you come here saying you need the shelter, support, and public money we’re determined to give to aggressive invaders who don’t need it, don’t deserve it, who despise us, and whom we will disperse across the country as a punishment to people who don’t agree with us, and bow down to and act-out our Stockholm Syndrome ??? We don’t want your sort here, so go away immediately and become extinct as quickly as possible, and don’t embarrass us in the meantime with your boring suffering and ridiculous, outdated superstitious beliefs!”

Agree there. The middle class left seem woefully uninterested in those genuinely in need or truly fleeing for their lives. As for Asia Bibi, I seem to recall that the UK Govt refused her sanctuary on the grounds that it would increase communal tensions by which they mean rile up violent Muslims.

I think that Orwell came up with a passage that very well describes the ‘refugees welcome’ crowd. It was written to describe the Left at the time but really does seem to apply to the Islam-fellating middle class ‘refugees’ agitators. It reads:

“They take their cookery from Paris and their opinions from Moscow. In the
general patriotism of the country they form a sort of island of dissident
thought. England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals
are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles it is always
felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman
and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse
racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably
true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of
standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of stealing from a
poor box.

As I’ve posted before, I went to Penally Camp twice with the Royal Artillery back in the early 2000’s. The accommodation is basic, but there’s a roof over your head, a bed to sleep in, toilets and showers, and a small dining hall and kitchen. It’s a typical transit camp, doesn’t have a permanent military presence, but it does have civilian guards. The food wasn’t great, but it was the Army. The entertainment consisted of going into town and having a few bevvies. I’m sure the current tenants won’t be doing that, but if they don’t like it, they can always ask to go back to France. Let’s remember nobody but the ‘refugees welcome’ brigade, who consist largely of rich and middle class far left idiots. Not one of them would actually want a single one of these ‘refugees’ either in or anywhere near, there home. They wouldn’t even want them on their posh streets. This was proven by Lily Allen, who in a TV interview said the she would “one hundred percent” take in one of these parasites. When it came to the crunch however, she made the excuse that she wouldn’t be taking any of them in, because she wouldn’t know them and had to protect her children. Well, that’s how the rest of us feel. And it’s why we don’t want them here.

Whilst I do not doubt that the Penally accommodation is basic, it’s better than nothing and if these lot were genuine refugees they would not be complaining. I doubt that my wife’s family complained when they fled to the UK in 1940 when France fell about basic accommodation or temporary discomfort, they were probably just relieved and grateful that they were not being murdered by the followers of the uni-testicled Austrian.

Spot on with your assessment of the middle class Left. They do indeed make up the bulk of the ‘refugees welcome’ clowns. They also rarely put their money where their mouths are and agitate for these ‘refugees’ but want them to live with ordinary working class Britons and not in their nice homes or with their children.

  4. Woman is a bleeding heart loon. If I were a refugee I’d be grateful for any food & shelter. These criminals should be blocked and left in sea to return to France. They’d stop coming pretty quick

Asia Bibi: yes, UK Gov’t refused as she would not be safe in UK – that says lots

I must admit that being the party of extreme minority concerns such as open borders and anti Brexit is a sad end for what was once a great and venerable party with roots going back centuries.
