Another Grenfell fraudster is revealed

Welcome to London's latest (benefit) tourist attraction - The Grenfell Tower of Fraud

The amount of fraudsters that have emerged from the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire is truly staggering. You expect some low level insurance fraud when a disaster like this strikes, but the number of those defrauding the compensation and assistance systems seems to me to be greatly disproportionate when compared to other similar disasters.

It has been revealed that the 13th, yes the 13th Grenfell related fraudster has finished his journey through the court system and yet again it is someone who has profited due to the lax systems of administration in the post Grenfell assistance services. These fraudsters have been assisted in their fraud by a government that has bent over backwards to virtue signal and appease over the Grenfell incident. The government went way way too far when they promised immunity for both illegal migrants and illegal sub letters who were caught up in Grenfell. Because the government and the assistance groups had no idea who was legitimately supposed to be in Grenfell the night of the fire, they have become easy prey for those shysters who claimed they were in Grenfell on that night, but were not.

This latest fraudster, a Tunisian named Abdelkarim Rekaya, an illegal migrant, took advantage of the Government’s amnesty for illegal migrants who were caught up in the fire. He has been gaoled for four and a half years on deception charges. He had claimed £88,000, which included long stays in a plush hotel and a stay at a flat in Chelsea.

The Daily Mail said:

An illegal immigrant who got the Grenfell fund to pay his Netflix subscription as he swindled £88,000 by falsely claiming he was a victim has become the latest conman jailed over the fire.

Tunisian Abdelkarim Rekaya took advantage of the government’s policy of providing amnesty for migrants living in the gutted tower block in June last year.

In the aftermath of the fire, the 28-year-old attended the Westway support centre for victims of disaster and said he had been staying in a flat four. He later claimed he had been sleeping in the stairwell.

He was provided with emergency hotel accommodation at Park Plaza County Hotel for a total of 209 nights, costing £60,401.

Rekaya was then moved into a studio flat in Chelsea for six months at a cost of another £15,895, including £3,166 worth of furniture, electrical goods and bills.  He was also given payments totalling £11,885 and monthly travel cards.

The judge in the case revealed Rekaya even asked officials whether his Netflix subscription was being paid for by the funds.

In November 2017 he was given 12 months leave to remain in the United Kingdom as part of the Grenfell Tower survivor’s policy.

The court heard that this would have been the first step in applying to live permanently in the UK.

This illegal migrant just walked in off the street to one of the assistance centres set up after the fire and was just handed bounty after bounty with little or no checking as to his identity or the provenance of his story. He took full advantage of the government’s foolish decision to give an amnesty to illegals caught up in Grenfell and had been given leave to remain in the UK. There must be many more illegals like him who may have falsely claimed that they were at Grenfell, who have not yet swindled the country financially, but who may instead have claimed leave to remain dishonestly. This policy of amnesty for the illegals who claimed to be at Grenfell is a massive and unnecessary loophole that needs to be closed urgently. The Government, under pressure from various activist and political groups to do so, virtue signalled their supposed ‘goodness’ by giving this amnesty, but as we can see from this latest case, is being ruthlessly exploited.

As I have said in other articles that I have written about Grenfell, it is these fraudsters, along with the knowledge that worryingly high number of the Grenfell residents had no legal right to be in the UK, that has caused public sympathy for those affected by Grenfell to drop so precipitously. Is it any wonder that with fraudsters like those that have been uncovered and a government that has flung everything at the Grenfell survivors or alleged survivors, that people are angered at what they see? In effect, the government gave the distinct impression that, before the ashes were cold at Grenfell, they were opening the nation’s treasure chest and saying to those allegedly affected by the fire: ‘go on take it, take it, it’s yours, we don’t care that you’ve committed crimes, just don’t call us racist.’ The result of this virtue signalling largesse by Lady Bountiful May has predictably been a disaster. We have seen fraud, piss taking illegals dishonestly getting UK residence and no punishment for those council tenants who made bundles out of illegally letting their flats. May’s government chucked disproportionate resources at Grenfell for public relations reasons, her government has also woefully mismanaged the administration of the response to the fire and given carte blanche to every chancer who could possibly come up with a plausible story about their connection with Grenfell. May’s virtue signalling PR exercise has cost the nation at least £500,000 so far in fraud caught so far and will probably cost us much more in welfare for those illegals that May’s ill thought out amnesty have been allowed to stay in Britain. It is now time for this waste to be stopped.
