Two terrorist converts to Islam captured in Syria

As I’ve stated often before on here there is something different about those who choose to convert to Islam. Unlike those who choose other faith paths, there are a remarkable number of those who choose Islam who end up going bad. Of course I accept that there may well be peaceable converts to Islam, especially those who convert to the more peaceful branches of Islam such as the Ahmadis or the more liberal branches of the Ismailis. But those who choose to convert to Islam tend to follow the majority Sunni or Shia branches of Islam, which are the ones which are mostly involved in terrorism.

Now we have two more examples of converts to Islam, this time American citizens, who have gone very bad remarkably quickly. According to a BBC report, two men were captured by members of a Syrian militia, the Syrian Democratic Alliance. The men, one with a Western name and one with an Islamic name both appear to be men who have chosen Islam rather than been born into an Islamic family and are suspected by the SDA of plotting to murder civilians fleeing from fighting in Syria.

The BBC said:

Two American men fighting for the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria have been captured, according to a US-backed Syrian militia alliance.

The Syrian Democratic Forces said on Sunday they had captured Warren Christopher Clark from Houston, Texas, and Zaid Abed al-Hamid during fighting.

According to the alliance, the men were caught planning a terrorist attack on fleeing Syrian civilians.

They were arrested along with suspected fighters from Ireland and Pakistan.

The report added that Clark had been said by an academic terrorism researcher to have sent a CV to ISIS asking to be employed by them as an English teacher. According to this researcher Clark is an English graduate of the University of Houston and then went onto work in Saudi Arabia and then Turkey as an English teacher. It is unclear at this time how Clark and Al Hamid ended up in Syria fighting for ISIS. It is likely, based on how other terrorists have entered Syria, that they crossed the border from Turkey rather than via any other route.

Al Hamid was said by the BBC report to have converted to Islam in his home nation of Trinidad, an island that has supplied a remarkably high number, 130, of dangerous Muslims who have been accused of supporting ISIS.

The BBC added:

Simon Cottee, who is writing a book about Trinidadian IS fighters, told the New York Times that Mr Hamid’s name appears on a database of 130 men from the Caribbean island nation who are believed to have joined the group.

In an IS propaganda video from 2015, a man believed to be Mr Hamid talks about his conversion to Islam and his difficulties practising his faith in his homeland.

There have been so many of these cases of people who convert to Islam and then go on to commit terrorist attacks that maybe it is time for the governments of Western nations to be much more proactive about this problem. Because of the number of bad converts to this Islamic ideology it would be sensible for governments to monitor more closely those who choose Islam. This is not only because converts to any religion can sometimes be more zealous than those born into a faith, but because Islam is at heart a violent ideology. People who choose this ideology should arouse more suspicion than those who choose other more peaceful faiths. There is I’ve noticed a big difference between those born into Islam and those who convert. Those born into the ideology may have the religious knowledge and cultural confidence to say sod off to those trying to turn them into terrorists, those who choose Islam may not have the same levels of confidence and the same levels of religious knowledge to say no to the blandishments of extremists.

I can understand the arguments of those who say that targetting all converts to Islam for public and governmental opprobrium may be counterproductive. However, I do not accept these arguments as there is now ample evidence that a quick decline into religious savagery is a phenomenon that is becoming more and more noticeable among those who convert to Islam. If someone openly chose another dodgy ideology to follow for example Nazism or Stalinism society would quite rightly class that person as being beyond the pale. Maybe it is time to take the same attitude to those who choose an ideology that has attacked us and our nations and which is likely to be a continuing threat for many years to come?

And captured along with the two Americans (and two Pakistanis) was a naturalised Irish immigrant from Belarus, arriving in RoI in 2000, and apparently ‘radicalised’ whilst there.

Thanks for that background info. That ‘naturalised Irish citizen’ is someone who will plainly be of no positive use whatsoever to the Irish people.
