Britain’s dubious and censorious ‘hate speech’ police are now quite plainly out of control. The Met Police, or at least a significant part of it, seems to have given up on dealing with the ordinary everyday crime of the sort that bothers most Londoners and are now merely doing the bidding of Leftist and identity politics activists. These Leftist and identity politics activists want nothing more than the complete censorship, by using the criminal law if necessary, of anyone who challenges them.

I found out this morning that not only are the Metropolitan Police going after political commentator Darren Grimes because he broadcast a comment by the historian Dr David Starkey that challenged the notion that the Transatlantic Slave Trade was ‘genocide’, but they are going after Dr Starkey himself. The Met Police sent an email ‘requesting’ an interview with Dr Starkey to the think tank that he is vice chairman of, the Bow Group.

The BBC said:

Historian Dr David Starkey has said he is being investigated by police over an interview in which he made controversial comments about slavery.

Dr Starkey made the remarks on YouTube to conservative commentator Darren Grimes, who is also being investigated.

Dr Starkey has apologised for saying in June that slavery was not genocide because “so many damn blacks” survived.

He said he did not “intend to stir up racial hatred” and would “defend myself robustly” against the allegation.

The Metropolitan Police said it was investigating “a public order offence relating to a social media video”.

In a statement, the TV historian said: “I have apologised unreservedly for the words used and I do so again today. It was a serious error for which I have already paid a significant price.

“I did not, however, intend to stir up racial hatred and there was nothing about the circumstances of the broadcast which made it likely to do so.”

He said he only discovered he was under investigation on Tuesday, six days after the Met sent an email to notify him and Mr Grimes of the action, because the email had not been forwarded on to him.

Scotland Yard sent it to the Bow Group conservative think tank, of which he is vice-president, who thought it was a hoax, he said.

“The effect of this delay and confusion has been to throw the focus of the police investigation wholly on Mr Grimes. This is unfortunate and grossly unfair,” Dr Starkey added.

The targeting by the police of Dr Starkey and Mr Grimes are prima face examples of how laws regarding public order and various ‘hate crime’ and ‘hate speech’ laws have corrupted Britain’s legal system and society. These laws have created a situation where people are not treated equally under the law. They have helped to create our current nightmarish situation where the BLM / Marxists can spout all manner of racial superiority guff, Islamists can make statements approving of the destruction of Jews and Christians and Trans activists can threaten violence, but nothing happens to them because they are considered to have the ‘correct’ ‘protected characteristics’ as defined under the Equality Act 2010. However, those who challenge the narratives of Leftist / identity politics activists and narratives as Dr Starkey has done, end up with the full weight of the law dropping down on them.
