Quotes of the Day 18th June 2021 – Two quotes from different people on a similar subject.

Normally, this blog’s ‘Quote of the Day’ strand only features one quote from one individual or publication. However, today there are two. They are from two different people, published in two different media and are separated by about fifteen years. But what is relevant is that they both deal with similar issues namely the loud but poorly and narrowly supported far Left groups that plague Western societies.

They, including the earlier quote, are incredibly relevant to Britain today as Britain’s newest broadcaster GB News is being consistently attacked and smeared by an odious group of Left wing activists called Stop Funding Hate. I have covered the story of this disgraceful small bunch of self appointed censors in the past and you can read about how they started, their key people when they started up and some of their links with equally odious and sometimes profoundly anti-British groups. You can read the Stop Funding Hate story HERE.

The first quote comes from the Twitter user Sheikh Anvakh and they point out that there is an intolerable amount of slander and smears about GBN coming from the Stop Funding Hate group. They add that there is so much of this slander and smear that maybe GBNews should sue Stop Funding Hate because of it.

I’m not a lawyer so I cannot judge whether such a case would have any legal merit. But what I do believe quite strongly is that dragging Stop Funding Hate out into the open by suing them or threatening to sue them, would expose Stop Funding Hate for what they really are, which is a very small bunch of single issue censorious leftists who although devoid of widespread support, give the false impression of wide support because they are well connected to other left leaning entities, some of whom are worryingly politically well connected.

Here’s a screen shot of Sheikh Anvakh’s Tweets on the subject of the Stop Funding Hate group. I would certainly advise visiting this Twitter account to read the entirety of Sheikh Anvakh’s comments on this subject.

I agree with Sheikh Anvakh here. The actions of Stop Funding Hate look like targeted harassment and may well be seen as such.

The second quote comes from 2006 and is from the book ‘The New American Revolution’ by Tammy Bruce (ISBN13 9780060726218). Ms Bruce who is now on the conservative side of the political fence, used to be firmly on the Left of politics and was an organiser for the American National Organisation for Women where she saw exactly what the Left really wanted and more importantly how Leftists organise.

Ms Bruce noticed that Left wing groups are loud and seemingly have a lot of backing from members of the public, but that is often not the case. These leftist groups and causes are often very poorly supported but give the impression that they are better supported than they really are. What the left do often have, in the absence of broad support, is the backing of legacy media which amplifies the messages of Leftists in a way that these groups would not be able to manage on their own. Ms Bruce’s comments about how left wing groups are analogous to ‘pill bugs’ is one that people should remember when looking at groups like Stop Funding Hate.

Tammy Bruce said:

The Leftists who control our culture have created a brilliant external facade – very much like the Wizard of Oz – they present their special interest groups and corporate foot soldiers as huge impenetrable megaliths that are bigger than you and beyond your reach.

But the image the Left presents of these institutions of giant scary creatures is just that – an image. To my surprise I saw the underbelly of that creature, and its really much more like a pillbug – all scaly, uniform and resilient on the outside, but with a shallow and vulnerable underside. The only way to keep you from poking around and discovering that vulnerability is a) to make you feel it is personally dangerous to do so (accomplished by brainwashing) and b) to make themselves appear all-powerful and too important – too established and too permanent – to disturb”

I think that Ms Bruce has come up with a fantastic metaphor for not just the left in the USA but also the Left in the UK. Groups like Stop Funding Hate are our political pillbugs. They give the impression that they are all powerful and can bend society to its will but it has a soft and vulnerable underbelly in the form of the lack of broad support that this group has. It’s time to expose groups like this to show the nation that they are not broadly supported organisations but instead are Potemkin villages, mere vehicles for a small number of middle class leftists to use to stop people thinking outside of the leftist box.

  1. They (the left) don’t actually need broad support – they are gaining control where it matters, and it’s all to plan:- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_long_march_through_the_institutions

The last few decades are now clear, with hindsight: unfortunately the left has achieved a fair measure of success.
