Oh to be a fly on the wall.

So Matt Hancock has resigned.  Not surprised to be quite honest.  I thought this was on the cards when the PM said that he had ‘full confidence’ in Hancock.  The phrase ‘full confidence’ when uttered by the PM about a Minister rarely means that the PM thinks that the Minister is doing a good job, it more often than not means that the Minister should be considering resignation for the good of the Government.

It’s not just the hypocrisy of Hancock, doing that which he and his government had forbidden the rest of us to do that has done for Hancock, I think that there’s more here than just the hypocrisy and the home wrecking.  I suspect that there are sleaze and security issues bubbling around about this case and time will hopefully tell us what they were.  The affair and the hypocrisy is probably a good excuse to persuade a Minister to resign, rather than grow into a cancerous growth on the Government and thereby do more damage.  I can’t believe that our admittedly priapic Prime Minister really believes that the affair or even the hypocrisy is a resigning issue, after all when it comes to relationships Boris Johnson hasn’t actually been a paragon of monogamy or even good behaviour has he?  There’s much more to this and I’m interested to hopefully eventually find out what it was.

I would really have loved to be a fly on the walls of Westminster and Whitehall when Hancock realised that his position was untenable, more dirt was going to come out about him and he had been revealed as both a hypocrite and a home wrecker.

I do wonder whether or not the scenes around Hancock’s former workplace at the Department of Health had any resemblance to this scene from ‘The Thick Of It’?
