A possible reason why Dick got her extension.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick

A lot of people including myself thought that it was utterly mad that the failed London police chief Dame Cressida Dick got her contract extension by the Home Office a decision that was backed by the equally appalling London Mayor Sadiq Khan. Based on her record going right back to the Stockwell incident and on through the disgrace of seeing Metropolitan Police officers kneeling to BLM/Marxist thugs by way of her overt politicisation of the police, she should have been replaced earlier this year when the option came up. Dick should have gone and been replaced by someone who might have rebuilt confidence in a police force that under Dick appears more interested in hurty words on Twitter than trying to curb the rising death toll due to violence that is mostly afflicting London’s Black community.

But, as time has gone on, there appear to be reasons why she was left in post and they are cynical reasons. The main reason that I believe that Dick was kept in place is that both Khan and the Home Office must have known that the sentencing of the killer cop Wayne Couzens was coming up and that what would be revealed in the sentencing process about the culture and conduct of the Met Police would cause an enormous amount of justifiable public outcry. Keeping Dick in place gives both Pritti Patel’s Home Office and the Greater London Mayor a type of shield that they can use to avoid negative attention from the public being turned on them.

Without Dick as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, many if not all of the justifiable criticisms that can be made of how London has been policed would have been aimed at the Police and Crime Commissioner for London which is Sadiq Khan and the person ultimately responsible for policing in Britain, Pritti Patel. Such are the failures of the Met, which go from the extreme like failing to properly exclude murderous freaks like Couzens from the force, or the lack of prioritisation of police resources for the crimes that really bother Londoners and the inability to deal with eco-terrorists such as Insulate Britain, that without Dick such criticisms might be aimed elsewhere. Keeping Dick in place to a large extent shields both Khan and Patel’s Home Office and maybe even the Government in general from having to take responsibility for the disaster that is the Met Police.

I believe it’s quite possible that both the Home Office and the Mayor’s Office cynically engineered Dick’s contract extension in order to stop any of the justifiable shit that is being flung in the Met’s direction, sticking to them. It could well be the case that Dick is being kept on as a whipping girl to divert the awkward and necessary questions about how London is policed from being asked of either Khan or the Home Office.

I suspect that what might happen over the next few months is that either Dick will brazen things out and stay the full two years of the contract extension, something not unlikely for this shameless individual, or that she will publicly resign, mouth the empty words ‘lessons will be learned’ and ride off into the sunset or rather some lucrative Quango or charity sector appointments. For the Establishment this is a win-win scenario. Dick ends up with her pension and slides neatly into another public sector job and the elected politicians and the Civil Servants at the Home Office do not have to carry the can for the mess that is the Met.

It’s quite possible that either due to the Couzens case or information about some other murkiness that might come out in the short term about the Met and its culture, a lot of increased and negative public attention is coming the Met’s way. If you were Khan or the Home Office wouldn’t you want Cressida Dick soaking up the shit before it got to you? Dick is the shield that the political classes need because why else would you, if you were Home Secretary or Greater London Mayor, keep this controversial character in office? If you genuinely cared about how London is policed you would have Dick out the door as quickly as possible. The fact that she’s still in place points to other reasons why this failed and controversial police officer is allowed to keep her job.
