From Elsewhere: Video about the Free Speech Champions project

Really interesting short bit of video from GBNews about the Free Speech Champions project. A couple of things about this conversation caught my ears. The first was when one of the supporters of Free Speech Champions, Sophie Watson, said that in universities the ‘adults have not been truthful with the students’ and put this in the context of the harassment of gender critical feminist Kathleen Stock at Sussex. The second thing that caught my attention was when the other individual, a former student called Gabrielle Sartoris, said that during the entire time of his Bachelor degree he felt that he wasn’t allowed to speak freely.

I’m appalled by both of these comments. Those who attend universities as students need to be told the truth, even if some of these truths are uncomfortable for some students to have to hear. Also no student should have to go through a three year degree course and feel that they are frightened to voice an opinion.

  1. 1984 has arrived at last! You can of course say anything you like in today’s Britain just as long as Big Brother approves of it and you only pontificate in newspeak. Now that’s real freedom, isn’t it?????

However bad things are in general life with regards to freedom of speech, the situation is infinitely worse in universities and colleges. There the speech controls, controls administered and enforced by the Left, are extremely oppressive. There’s an ongoing legal case involving a college that censured a female student for saying that only women have vaginas such is the lunatic depths has the situation plunged to in the higher education sector.
