The Met is now Dickless.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick

So, Dame Cressida Dick the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police has resigned. An officer who had previously appeared to be Teflon and therefore impervious to the various scandals that she and her force has been embroiled with over the years, has apparently been pressured to resign by Greater London Mayor Sadiq Khan. However Dick was not pressured to resign over the appalling and spiralling violent crime rate in London but allegedly because Dick would not say ‘how high’ to Khan when he asked her to jump over ‘cultural changes’ in the police force that Khan has demanded.

The Met Police has been under fire from both the Met and others over the ‘canteen culture’ in some police stations where officers have complained of bullying from other officers and that conversations between officers are distinctly not politically correct. I must say that the bullying allegations are by far the most serious here as they have real world consequences but I’m less concerned about non-PC natter in police stations. Provided that the non-PC natter by officers does not affect the equability and impartiality with which Londoner’s are policed, then I’d be less concerned about this matter and much more concerned with the service or rather lack of it that Londoners are getting from their police.

I’m not of course saying that the Met doesn’t have any culture problems. Of course it does. In the space of two years the Met has had one officer convicted of rape and murder and several other officers being charged with rape. There are wrong’uns in the Met, probably quite a few of them and those who present a danger to the public because they misuse their powers or bully other officers for their own gain, must be weeded out. There are culture problems in the Met but from the feedback I’m getting from contacts in London is that this issue is less of a concern than the generally poor service that they believe they are getting from the Met.

But it is police attitudes that seem to concern Khan the most, not the other numerous failures of the Met under his watch. Jt appears to be this issue that is driving Khan and why he was said to have put pressure on Dick to resign. In a statement that Khan put out when Dick resigned Khan said:

Last week. I made clear to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner the scale of the change I believe is urgently required to rebuild the trust and confidence of Londoners in the Met and to root out the racism, sexism, homophobia, bullying, discrimination and misogyny that still exists.

There’s lots of ‘isms’ in Khan’s statement but very little about the Met’s prime job which is preventing and investigating the sorts of crimes that are making Londoners fearful. There’s nothing in Khan’s statement about ‘rebuilding the trust’ between the Met and those that the Met have dismally failed, People like those who have been burgled and have had no adequate help from the Met. Or the victims of street robberies who face little chance of justice with a Met police clear up rate for these crimes of six per cent in 2019. Then there are the legions of young men from London’s Black community who make up the vast majority of those who are murdered on London’s streets. All too often these young men are not gangsters getting killed over gangsterism, but innocent people who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Khan’s concentration on various ‘isms’ in his statement doesn’t appear to recognise the slaughter that has gone on in London’s streets during both Khan and Dick’s time. Whining about the various ‘isms’ as Khan has done doesn’t help to make one person safer on the streets where he rules.

Dick should have gone a long time ago and for various other reasons ranging from the Stockwell shooting through to the disgraceful incident where uniformed police officers were permitted to kneel for BLM/Marxist demonstrators. Dick should have gone for her incompetence at managing London’s policing and her failure to prioritise resources towards preventing and investigating the types of crimes that most bother Londoners. She should have gone for the blatantly politicised way that public gatherings have been policed with groups like Insulate Britain, Extinction Rebellion and BLM basically being allowed to do what they want whilst those who follow causes that are not flavour of the month with the Left are cracked down upon. A lot of people’s trust and respect for the Met flickered and died under Cressida Dick’s watch and getting that trust back will only be achieved by impartial and effective policing of all Londoners no matter who they are. Whether this will occur is another story.

The question now is who will replace Cressida Dick? It could be someone better or it could quite equally be someone worse, someone who is quite willing to be Khan’s plaything and manage the police according to Khan’s whim. The Mayor does not, thankfully, have the power to appoint the Commissioner, that job is for the Home Secretary. But bearing in mind the current Home Secretary’s record of abject failure over the issue of illegal migration, I don’t hold out much hope that she would be effective at pushing a proper, effective and politically unbiased candidate on Khan. Khan’s role in all this is to be able to advise the Home Secretary on who he would like as Commissioner. Whether the Home Office will just cave into Khan and give the job to the Mayor’s choice or some other officer with a good and untainted record remains to be seen but I can’t see Pritti Patel the Home Secretary having the balls to stand her ground over this matter.

Personally I don’t believe that the Mayor should have such influence over Commissioner choice. I say that not merely because I dislike Khan and all his wasteful and destructive works, but because it’s too much power for a Mayor of London no matter who they are. The Met has many duties apart from those of a regional or county police force and therefore because of those extra responsibility aspects of the Met the choice of Met Commissioner should be for the Home Secretary. There are national security aspects that the Met are engaged with and a regional leader no matter how competent should not be able to politically skew policing where national security matters such as counter terrorism are involved. If there is a need for more accountability for the Met Commissioner then why not remove one of the Mayoral roles of Police and Crime Commissioner and instead have a separate elected Police and Crime Commissioner post? My own view is that separating policing from the Mayoral office might help to make the police cleaner, less politically biased and maybe more effective at tackling the sorts of crimes that bother the populace the most.

With Dick gone we wait and see whether or not who replaces her. We will find out in due course whether the person who will next lead the Met will be a proper thief taker or merely yet another piss taker.

The removal of this appalling creature is a start, but any Londoner who thinks they’ll now be ‘safer’ is being naive – like a stick of rock the Met has BENT running all the way through. Remember, they’re not here to help you…

Humphrey Duck I am in complete agreement with you. As you said, remember they’re not
    here to help you.
This video is called “Don’t talk to the police” , it is a good insight to the working of a cops mind.

  3. Her replacement will be just another wokebot with the same PC agenda. Our entire public services are infested with these types at the management level. The task at hand to to prevent future public sector managers from being infected by the woke bug in the first place. Prevention is better than cure.

The chances of any person being chosen as the new Commissioner not being a paid-up member of Common Purpose are zero. Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals will dictate the choice. The Leftists want to expand their levels of influence and this Police position is of prime importance to the far-left and their agenda.

  5. She has a lot of medals – were they issued for policing failures?

  6. Well, no, it’s complex, maybe I think too deeply about things, I don’t know. But I do suspect that the original intention of our police forces (decades back) was to arrest law breakers and to protect citizens from robberies, assaults etc and to bring the perpetrators to justice. With increasing urbanisation and more motor traffic on the roads, and political demonstrations, the police had to take on a new role of maintaining public order as well as apprending criminals?

    • Except they do anything but “maintain public order”, or rather they do, but highly selectively. Cracking the skulls of middle-aged women and old men defending statues or, horrors of horrors, (genuinely) peacefully protesting against FASCISTIC lockdown measures. Yet the MetPlods were happy to stand aside and let the rule trashing “mostly peaceful” (only) BLM, Antifa, XR and others riot, vandalise and destroy public property. Worse, they effectively knelt down in surrender and supplication and sucked off BLM.
Their selective attacks on Brexit demonstrators while the SWP and other violent leftists were left alone was self evident from the videos, with 80yr old men hit with batons.
Their effectively standing by in 2011 when rioters trashed, looted and burned our cities was the bellwether of what was to come. I watched the Plods stand by while scum looted and burned shops.
The effing Gestaplods have effectively abandoned the streets, instead preferring to sit on their arses drinking coffee, trawling Twitter for hurty-words going after soft targets who won’t riot or call them waaaycist or phobic giving the illusion of activity while massaging otherwise lamentable clear-up rates.
The police are no longer there to uphold the law and protect public and property, they’ve become a blunt instrument for public control and suppression.
They will stop at nothing, will break and bend badly drafted laws, will lie, cheat and fit up anyone who crosses their paths while data-raping us, bloating their databases with innocents, creating state dossiers, often filled with “non-crime” crap to hold over us.
The police have turned into corrupt, cheap mafiosi, the very embodiment of th STASI, out of control and completely vicious 8n their attacks on individuals who date question them.
Cressida Dick was the epitome of Common Purpose corruption, but if you think she was bad, wait until her replacement is announced, particularly if it’s the “diverse” authoritarian scumbag Neil Basu.
Having personally been the target for questioning in public, his lack of impartial and equal application of the Law, driven by various characters, determined to destroy anyone and any opposition, I can say with authority, that there needs to be a root and branch clear-out of UK Police forces to get rid of the chancers, the Common purpose Marxists and the politically motivated. Sadly, it ain’t gonna happen 7ndef the fake “conservatives” who as I write are drafting a bill of “rights” that favour the State and remove the remnants that were left to us by the Blair atrocity, his caveat ridden Human Rights Act.
Meanwhile, as with every authoritarian regime, we have been disarmed and disempowered with no-one on our side, a cosy stitch up by the State, the big corporates and the arse licking Scum Media.
      Have a nice day!

  7. Oh sorry, I left something out.
Let’s not forget our “esteemed” London Mayor and “human rights lawyer” Sadiq Khan, who was always keen to defend the “Human Rights” of every Islamic terrorist and make excuses for his ghastly religion, with any criticism or question being deemed “phobic” to shut down any discussion.
The man who obsesses over “palestine” pleasing and pandering to those corrupt unverifiable mosque-whipped mass Muslim postal votes that have turned huge swathes of London into hostile defacto Sharia shitholes.
The man who has presided over skyrocketing knife and other violent crimes while doing little bar a bit of window-dressing to tackle soaring rates of Jew hatred, the Plods having done as little as possible too, also to avoid being called “phobic”.
The man whose “green” agenda is to turn London into Beijing, except for the Islamic shitholes naturally, with the full force of the Met Gestapo and Shitty Hall functionaries going after soft targets.
Funny how these leftist twunts always go on about “human rights” in the abstract or elsewhere, while shitting ove those closer to home, ours.

    • Josh: You need a new series “Why London is a Shithole” as an adjunct to “Why Pakistan is a Shithole” and for the selfsame reasons, Islam and (son of) Pakistani (bus-driver) politics.
