At last a sensible decision by HM Government

I really must put some guardrails on my office chair as I’ve just seen some news that nearly made me fall off it.  The Government is going to rescind the ban on fracking for gas.  This is an eminently sensible decision and although it is unlikely to reduce gas prices in the short term it does give us more energy security in the medium to long term.

As well as being the correct thing to do this decision has upset all the right people including one of those responsible for our current energy security disaster the former Labour leader Ed Milliband who appears to be livid about this decision.

  1. Whilst an announcement is nice, it’d be wise to remember that this govt are fond of announcing things that never actually happen, eg rwanda.

Of course a competent govt with an 80 seat majority would ensure that the legislation is in place and watertight to prevent outside interference in fracking, but they won’t and my local road will once again be filled with crusties protesting, nothing getting done, and lots of money for lawyers.

  2. Perhaps Truss is just grandstanding, with no real intent to allow fracking again, but it’s a good start!
Now drop all the climate crap, i.e., stop subsidising electric (coal-powered) cars until/if the grid can cope, remove grants for solar panels (which cause huge environmental damage where they’re made), and have a proper inquiry into the last two years of disastrous ‘covid’ policy errors.
That’d be a good start, but there’s a lot else to fix!

  3. Hmmm, looks a bit like the reaction of a government facing electoral disaster. A welcome move but far too little and far to late in my opinion. Also we might want to remember this governments record on keeping promises.

  4. I’ve just seen an ad on the telly urging us all to go zero. This appears to be necessary to stop the Moon getting really close to the Earth, or something.
