I was going to write something about the current ‘Linker-gate’ furore but other people seem to be doing that job better than I could. For the record, Gary Lineker has the right, as any Briton should have, to voice his opinion, no matter how stupid or misguided that opinion might be, but this is more a story about contract compliance rather than free speech. He’s not supposed to get involved in political controversies as this is not allowed under the BBC’s code of conduct for employees. He’s dragging his primary employer, the BBC, into a row about the organisation’s impartiality at a time when more and more people are unhappy with the biases shown by the BBC. If or rather when the BBC caves to Lineker, then they confirm the suspicions that many of us have about the BBC and its political bias.

But, this whole Lineker-gate mess with Lineker’s bullshit comparison of proper border control with Hitlerian governance could in my view could be summed up by this song. ‘Everyone’s a Nazi but me’.
