The Metropolitan Police finally discover that they have a testicle.

I never thought I’d see it. I thought I’d go to my grave not seeing it. Yes, after years of many people pointing out to both the Metropolitan Police and various Home Secretaries that the annual Al Quds Day march through London is nothing more than a gathering of the worst Islamists and Jew haters in Britain, the Metropolitan Police have finally banned this event.

The Al Quds Day march has often had a lot of input from pro-Iranian regime activists and it shows in the content of the banners that are carried and the chants that are made. This march is not so much a demonstration but a moving hatred festival that if run by any other group might probably have been banned or restricted years ago but because it’s broadly Islamic the police just let complaints about this march fall on deaf ears.

The BBC said:

The government has approved a request from the Metropolitan Police to ban a march due to take place in London on Sunday.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said the ban was aimed at preventing “serious public disorder” at the annual Al Quds Day march, which has always been seen as pro-Iranian though organisers say it is more of a pro-Palestinian event.

Mahmood added that a stationary demonstration could take place instead under strict conditions.

The Met said the threshold to ban a protest was high and it had not taken its decision lightly.

This march has always been a risk of public disorder as well as being a public display of some of the worst of Islam in Britain so why ban it now rather than last year or the year before that? My suspicion is that the Met is only doing this because the Iranian government is now weaker than its been for years and because of that there’s less political cost and therefore less chance of aggro from Islamist interests in London than before.

Anyway, whatever the reason why the Met have discovered that they have balls this is the right decision but it is one that should have been taken years ago.

Sadly it says a lot about the craven and cowardly way that the Met behave when it comes to Islamic groups and causes that after many years of complaints about this hate festival the Met did nothing. Only now, when there may be less chance of some Islamic activist bending the Commissioners ear, do they act. I welcome this decision by the Met to ban the Al Quds march but this is a decision that maybe should have been taken last year or the year before that or even earlier.

A good decision by the Met for once and thanks to whoever dug down the back of the sofa at Scotland Yard and who found one of the Met’s missing testicles for making this happen.
