It’s rare that there is a good news story these days in Britain but this one genuinely is a good news story. In a recent post here and at the other place of mine entitled: ‘Growing Anger and Dissatisfaction with Britain’s policing system’ I mentioned that South Wales Police had instituted a quasi-secret Islamic ‘blasphemy’ unit that would ‘monitor’ the British public’s criticism of Islam and decide what criticism was ‘legitimate’ or ‘illegitimate’. This is not a job that the police should be involving themselves with. When it comes to speech the police should sod right off.

This disgraceful decision by South Wales Police to act as Islamic blasphemy police has been challenged by both the Free Speech Union (an organisation of which I am a member) and the Shadow Equalities Secretary Claire Coutinho. Well I’ve recently found out that the Free Speech Union has won against South Wales Police. The police are going to dump this blasphemy excrescence and hopefully get back to some non-two tier policing.

This is excellent news but South Wales Police should not have been engaging in such dangerous and biased Islamopandering in the first place.

This is a victory that would not have been achieved without the input of the FSU. Maybe you should consider joining the Free Speech Union both to declare your support for freedom of speech and also as an insurance against being targeted for ‘speech crimes’ by the British state.
