Some areas are going to vote Labour no matter what and Manchester is one of those areas. Labour ‘won’ the Manchester mayoral election but the real winner was public apathy. Yes, in Manchester as in so many other contests where there was a low turnout, such as in London mayoral elections, terrible politicians get elected because eligible voters don’t turn out to vote for something or someone better. This means that areas and constituencies get piss poor representation because only the activists or the motivated can be arsed to get off their arses and vote.

I expected a sub 50% turnout in the Manchester mayoral election but I did not expect it to be as low as it was which was 25%. This is appalling. I suspect that in this contest not only was an unpopular political position being voted for, that of Manchester Mayor, but the vast majority of Manchester’s voters didn’t believe that anything would get better no matter who they voted for.

The Labour win which was likely to have been buoyed up and achieved by a combination of Manchester’s massive number of idiotic socialist students, possibly a whipped mosque vote and the votes of public sector workers, is not going to improve the lives of everyone else. I would not be at all surprised to find out somewhere down the line that the thousands of people who voted for Reform and who propelled Reform into second place were the normal Mancunians, the ones who work, who create, who contribute and who are angry at what has been done to their city by the Left and their allies.

The 25% turnout in Manchester should worry us all. It shows that there is a disengagement from the political system by the majority. This will mean that we will get ever more lunatic and out of touch politicians imposing ever more damaging policies. This pattern could be stopped but it needs to be stopped via the ballot box. Every person who stays home on election day is imposing on themselves and their communities terrible politicians with equally terrible policies.

We all need to vote and we need to vote tactically for the least worst politician who promises the changes we need and not the change that the political class and the tiny number of people who give them electoral legitimacy believe we need which is often negative rather than positive change.

We are not going to get the things that many of us want to see such as a reckoning with the Rape Gangs and their collaborators, stronger borders, a better economy, the curtailment of the worst aspects of multiculturalism, fairer policing and everything else unless we vote for them. We need to get up off of our knees and onto our feet and go and vote for the people saying that they’d do the things we want and defeat those who are bringing nothing but misery to our nation.

25% turnout even in a contest for a position that is not popular with the public is bloody shameful for a country where universal suffrage was only completely won just over one lifetime ago in 1928. People bled and suffered and campaigned for ordinary people, male and female, landowner or not, to be able to vote and those who stay at home during election time throw that hard work away. It’s not that long ago that Britons were excluded by the Establishment from a say in how they are governed and it is shameful and shocking to see so many Britons voluntarily exclude themselves from having a say.

If more people had turned out in Manchester it might not have been the walkover contest for Labour as it turned out it was. This contest could have created the sort of upset in Westminster that might have changed minds and possibly hampered the imposition of awful policies from Labour, but it didn’t and it didn’t because people decided to stay at home and not vote.
