There has been much discussion over at the September Hangout thread over at the Harry’s Place blog about the pro-migration refusenik who the BBC made a great deal of in their coverage of the Piddington affair. For those unfamiliar with the Piddington story a basic short version is this:

The people of Piddington which lies in the Bicester and Woodstock parliamentary constituency, which is represented by a pro-migration Liberal Democrat MP, are greatly perturbed by government plans to use a nearby former military base to house ‘refugees’ aka Channel Invaders. They are trying to fight these plans politically and through the courts but these efforts are likely to be rebuffed as it’s clear that the government wants these invaders to be dumped on Piddington and nothing legal or political will make the government change its mind. The residents of Piddington then held a non binding symbolic referendum to leave the UK because they have been ridden roughshod over by the Labour government.

The BBC covered the story of the Piddington revolt in its own inimitable way by allegedly focusing not on the concerns of the majority who are likely to have their lives made considerably more unsafe by the injection of Channel Invaders but on a woman who was very much pro-migration. A discussion on Harry’s Place on the subject of asylum charities ensued referencing a Turbulent Times article and one of the posters, Jon MC, commented on the nature of those who involve themselves in charities that facilitate invaders and the Left and ‘do gooders’ in general.

Jon MC said:

“I’m honestly coming to the opinion that, somewhere along the way in the process that causes these people to value feel-good-do-gooding (fgggs) above all that any sense of morality is destroyed.

A parallel could be made with drug-addiction.

When you feel good this is a result of elevated levels of one or more of the four main feel-good hormones and neurotransmitters; dopamine, serotonin, endorphins, and oxytocin.
If you base your life around a need to feel-good, perhaps these people then need a regular “fix” or “hit” of these biochemicals.

And just as with other drug addiction, as the body adapts to these elevated levels, so perhaps they need bigger and bigger hits to get the same effect (or not end up feeling like sh*t).
Now, the erosion of morality is well known within drug addiction which is at the root of many criminal actions from theft to prostitution. When the next fix is all that matters, then the addict will simply do whatever it takes to get the drugs.

For clarity, I am not suggesting that the fgggs are in that state, but I am suggesting that their need to feel good about themselves nevertheless destroys a large part of their moral sense. I also think that they are unaware of this because of the sense of moral superiority that is so prevalent within the ‘progressive’ community.

A second thesis would then be that their sense of moral superiority means that they intrinsically believe that whatever they feel, want, etc. is morally correct and indisputable.

The two thesis are not mutually exclusive of course.”

Jon MC has made a very interesting point there which matches with my experience of dealing with pro-asylum and pro-migration obsessives. They are convinced that they are morally correct and no amount of provision of solid information that shows that their altruism has costs for Britons will shake them from their views. When I’ve tried to have reasoned discussions with such people it has often ended up with them calling (or sometimes screaming at me) me a ‘racist’ or a ‘xenophobe’ or a ‘Tory’ or them falling back on attempts to guilt trip me by referencing the children rescued from the Nazis by the Kindertransport.

There does indeed, as Jon MC says something missing with these people. Their desire to feel good by promoting ‘refugees welcome’ or similar nonsense does override any and everything else, including morality. Are they psychopaths or narcissists or just people who have so little going on for them both externally and internally that they grab on to and are addicted to the most damaging of causes, such as facilitating and supporting the Channel Invaders? It’s pretty obvious to me that these people have a defect in that they cannot see anything outside of their cause. Whatever they are is debatable but what isn’t debatable is that they are but one part of the many problems that are facing Britain today.
