According to Sky News the two officers who hit with a baton, Tasered and pepper sprayed a 92 year old man in a care home because the man was holding a butter knife have been sacked from Sussex Police. They injured him and he died later in hospital. Whilst the injuries that the police caused this man didn’t lead directly to his death they created the conditions where he needed to be sent to hospital where he passed away from hospital acquired Covid. Sadly a jury earlier found this pair of uniformed bullying savages not guilty of any offences in connection to this incident.
Even though they may not have faced any criminal sanction for their actions at least they’ve been removed from the police.
Sky News said:
“Two officers have been sacked for gross misconduct after using a Taser and pepper spray on a 92-year-old amputee, the police watchdog has said.
PCs Stephen Smith and Rachel Comotto used “excessive force” on Donald Burgess, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.
The officers arrived at a care home in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, on 21 June 2022, after a report a resident had a knife and was threatening staff.
Bodycam footage showed them entering a room where Mr Burgess, who was a wheelchair user with an amputated leg, had been isolated. He was holding a cutlery knife.
PC Smith told him to put down the knife or he would be “sprayed or tasered”. “
Remember this was an upset, elderly man, this pair of uniformed filth were dealing with and the victim was possibly suffering from the sort of urinary infection common in the elderly which can cause confusion. The man posed no real physical threat to the officers and the knife that the victim was holding was a butter knife an implement that is really only suited for buttering bread and not much else. Sky’s less than accurate description of what the victim was holding gives the impression that this was a pointed steak knife which it was not.
Sky added:
“Within 90 seconds of arriving, both officers had used force on him.”
These filth didn’t even try to take any time to assess the situation or to calm the victim down or even to talk to the staff. They just steamed in with a Tazer and pepper spray at a 92 year old man. I find it difficult to find the words to express my disgust at these ‘officers’. They are scum of the lowest order.
