It’s not often that there’s some good news to be had in this world but this piece from GB News I believe counts as good news.
It appears that the Green Grifters of the heat pump world are about to take a financial haircut. The need for an increasingly skint Britain to put more money into defence means that there is less money for useless fripperies such as subsidising the installation of inefficient heat pumps as a replacement of the highly efficient gas boilers currently installed in Briton’s homes.
The Green Grifters of the heatpump industry are up in arms that their gravy train might be ending and are whining about it and about ‘climate change’ of course.
GB News said:
“Cutting Net Zero heating grants in favour of defence could “wipe out” the heat pump industry, campaigners warned.
The Government is considering slashing its boiler upgrade scheme, which subsidises heat pumps, and spending the money on defence instead, according to the Guardian.
Under the scheme, households can receive grants of up to £9000 to switch from gas to a heat pump.
Home heating is one of the major obstacles as Britain transitions to Net Zero by 2050. Heat pumps, which use electricity to move heat from the air outside to warm homes, are seen as key to decarbonising the sector.”
What neither the GB News reporters nor the Green Grifters appear to mention is where this subsidy money comes from. It isn’t magicked up out of thin air but comes from general taxation and from the obscene levels of green taxes imposed on home energy consumers.
GB News added:
“But ministers are reportedly preparing to axe the amount of money available to subsidise heat pumps as they search for funds to boost defence spending.
In total, the energy department is seeking £2billion in savings. The boiler upgrade scheme, part of its Warm Homes Plan, has funding of £2.7b, spread over five years.
Campaigners said that cutting the grants would leave Britain’s climate mission in “disarray”.”
I’m glad that this policy is upsetting the ‘climate campaigners’. Their climate cult has brought nothing but immiseration where ever it has had influence and has saddled Britons with such high energy costs that Britain’s industrial sector is all but destroyed.
There should not be just a little cut in the subsidies given to those who want to install heat pumps, all the subsidies should go. If people want to install less efficient or barely functioning heating such as heat pumps into their homes then that’s their right to do so, but they should pay for that idiocy out of their own pockets and not rob the taxpayer or those struggling to pay energy bills in order to do so.
