Quote of the Day 23rd October 2026 – Maybe it is because it is rubbish?

The blogger Tim Worstall has drawn my attention via his site to a piece in The Guardian about lessening public support for the National Health Service (NHS). The Guardian has blamed hardening attitudes to migration for the public’s removal of support for the NHS but as Mr Worstall said it may be less to do with immigration and more to to with the quality of the service provided by the NHS.

Mr Worstall said:

“Could even be that more people are realising how shit the NHS is. Doesn’t have to be hardship or migration at all, does it. “

Spot on Mr Worstall, spot on. It’s easy to think highly of the NHS until it’s time for you or your relatives to be forced to use it and then the person realises how utterly shit it is and that no matter how much money is spent on it the NHS will always be bad. If you run a healthcare system along the sclerotic and treating the customer as an annoyance style as was the state run telephone system of Britain in the 1970’s, then no matter how much money is thrown at it it will always fail.
