The Mosque, the suitcase and the Brazilian joker

Not the Brazilian Joker

There is a story that has come out of Merseyside about a guy who walked into a mosque, said he wanted to become Muslim, left a metal suitcase behind and then ran off.  There is, as with other ‘mosque attack’ stories of recent weeks a whiff of something not quite right about this story.  Originally the report said that this was a ‘white man’ but later the description was changed to a ‘black Brazilian.  This case may well be another ‘self inflicted wound’ but the story may develop into something more interesting.  You cannot tell by looking at a black person whether they are Brazilian or not, so he must have spoken to people at the mosque and imparted that information.  The original story from the Liverpool Echo and the comments have been pasted into a comment below the line just in case this disappears down the memory hole.

The Liverpool Echo said:

Leaders at a Liverpool mosque where a suspect package was found today said they feared the incident was aimed at stirring up hatred in the community.

Two controlled explosions were carried out after the suspect package – feared to be a bomb – was left at a Liverpool mosque last night.

Police were called to Al Rahma mosque in Mulgrave Street, Toxteth at around 9pm.

The force said this morning that no explosive materials were found at the scene but investigations were ongoing.

Mosque administrator Mohamed Mansur said a man had come into the mosque with a metal suitcase and said he wanted to become a Muslim.

Mr Mansur said: “Then he said ‘Before that I need to go home’ and ran off leaving his locked metal suitcase inside the mosque.”

People inside the mosque then phoned the police.

The man who left the suitcase was described as a black Brazilian.”

Destroyed package was left in mosque by ‘black Brazilian’, as Mosque leaders fear incident aimed at stirring up hatred

Bomb Squad at incident outside mosque on Mulgrave Road, Toxteth
The man who left the suitcase was described as a black Brazilian.

Today staff were scouring CCTV of the incident, which showed the man was in the mosque for 15 minutes.
General secretary of the Liverpool Muslim Society, based in the mosque, Rahma Sani, said she believed it was some kind of prank or hoax.
She said: “I think it was someone just being stupid, wanting to arouse the community and add to the tension.
“It was just someone very ignorant and stupid wanting to stir up hatred in the community and within individuals.”
She said the mosque had received a string of malicious phone calls in the aftermath of the death of Drummer Lee Rigby, who was killed in Woolwich in March.
Last night Mulgrave Street was evacuated and closed off and an Army bomb disposal squad was called to the scene. The cordon was later widened to include the junction with Selborne Street.
Hishan Umair Adnan Khalid, 20, who was arriving at the mosque for prayers, said: “There was a bit of commotion. A man came in randomly and left a suitcase and said he’d be back later on.
“Someone went to move it and it was heavy and locked. They called police straight away.
“When the police arrived they cordoned off the road and everyone was told to get out.
“The police kept saying ‘move back, move back’. People living over the road had to leave their houses.” He said the alarm was raised around 20 minutes before prayers and at one of the busiest times of the day for the mosque with around 150-200 people inside.
One witness said that the package may have been a donation of clothes for a charity bank at the back of the mosque.
Another local man said the mosque was covered by CCTV and the suspect had been recorded on the cameras.
Shocked residents gathered on all sides of the cordon as the drama unfolded.
One man, who asked not to be named, said: “This has shocked me because nothing like this has ever happened at our mosque.
“This is a peaceful area and people should not have to live in fear.”
Bomb squad officers from the Royal Logistics Corps used their remote-controlled robot to carry out two controlled explosions 10 minutes apart just before 11.30pm.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said it was too early to establish what was in the suitcase and tests were being carried out.
He said: “We were called at 9pm to a report of a suspicious package at the mosque. A cordon was put in place and we called in the Army bomb disposal unit.”

    well said Abdul M. Ismail.

i think of the cities in the uk liverpool would be better at mixing with the amount of multi cultures that have lived here all their lives.

People should see how toxteth has grown since the 80’s

i am how ever amazed that the title of the story wasnt blown out of proportion.

    with HATE crime titles.

which is unusual of the press anything to stir up hatred.

I do feel that this country doesn’t want sharia law and anyone that emigrates to the country should follow are laws to the latter, that doesn’t mean they have to give up their religion or heritage.

what a surprise people on here are downplaying the incident. I guess if the suspect was brown you would be shouting terrorist. Better yet if this was synagogue there would be a emergency cobra meeting, But oh its just the muslim’s being threatend, harrased and attacked its not worthy to make front page headlines.

What a load of b/s.. No one knows what was in the suitcase and as someone said in that report it could have been clothes for the donate bin. Oh and can a white person not be a muslim convert. If you are going to write a story at least use facts and not fiction.

Sorry i struggle to take anyone called “Tank” seriously. I am white and have been inside that Mosque many times. The people are lovely and very friendly.

You only have to take a look at the facebook pages of the EDL and NF to see how crazy some of there membership is.

@Tank – I’ve been to this Mosque hundreds of times and “white” people are always in the Mosque; sometimes they’re Muslims and other occasions, as visitors. Even on a few occasion when a “white non-Muslim” pops his head through the door, he’s usually asked politely what he’s after – and he ALWAYS leaves with his head intact.

@Kathy – Liverpool isn’t Birmingham. For example, when I was at University, some Asians from Birmingham would call me a coconut (white on the inside, brown on the outside) because I socialised with (white) people. On the other hand, some white guys would say to me, “why do all these P*kis hang around together”? There’s enough racism on both sides. As for Toxteth, it’s a mixed white/black/Asian area and white people always walk past the Mosque and I have never seen an instance where they’re spat on.

Oh, and to both of you, the entrance to the Mosque isn’t guarded so it’s quite easy to waltz in, leave a package or suitcase and walk away. I’m not saying it’s not a false flag; it could very well be. It’s just that you’re both so sure without knowing anything about anything.

I call B.S. already. So let me see if I understand this correctly. 1 white man walks into a mosque where everyone wants to kill him 15 minutes before the busiest part of the day, says I’m going to leave this suitcase here for awhile and walks out? First off that is retarded sir. Secondly people stupid enough to say ok to someone leaving a suitcase in front of them is just as retarded.
