A truly frightening attack on parental rights.

The British Conservative party once had an election poster, shown above, that said that Socialism would mean a government, local authority inspector or other unwanted prod-nose in every home. Recent legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament and supported by the Scottish National Party with regards children shows that old Tory poster to be most prescient.

In a major attack on the rights of parents to bring up their children as they see fit, new legislation that will come into effect in Scotland in 2016, places the primary responsibility for children, not as it should be, with the parents, but with ‘state guardians’ appointed by the NHS and the child’s local council. Under this socialist nightmare, every child, whether are from a home environment where they are ‘at risk’ or even if they are from loving, respectable family, will have a taxpayer-funded busybody watching over them and their families.

This is an appalling and truly frightening attack on parental rights, and even goes so far as to cut parents out of the loop when their children are considered by teachers etc to be engaging in risky under -age sexual behaviour. The guidelines for the new legislation suggest that when a child is suspected of being involved in sexual activity under the age of consent, that the parents should not be told but instead the ‘state guardian’ should be informed about what the child is doing.

Here is how the Daily Telegraph is reporting this story of socialist mission-creep too far.

Teachers whose under age pupils admit having sex should consider informing the SNP’s planned network of “state guardians” instead of parents, under controversial new guidance issued to Scotland’s schools.

The Scottish Government document advises teachers they should contact the youngster’s “named person” if a pupil tells them about sexual behaviour that raises a “child protection concern”.

Any other information that raises the possibility the pupil’s welfare is at risk must also be passed to the named person, according to the advice, which makes no mention of telling mothers or fathers.

The guidance was issued to prepare for the introduction of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act, which assigns every child under 18 a state guardian regardless of their background.”

This means that after 2016, if you are parent in Scotland, your 14 year old daughter could be either having a illegal but non abusive relationship with a 14 year old boy, or could be being pimped out by Islamic Rape Gangs and you, the parent, do not have any damn right to know what is happening. This is diminishing the role of parents and making children the property of the State. This aspect of the legislation is an intrusion into parental rights and responsibilities too far. Any responsible parent would want to know what their child was up to or if they were engaging in risky behaviour such as sex, drug-taking or getting in with the wrong crowd, but under this new law, only the ‘state guardian’ will know what your child is up to.

There is also a worryingly overt ‘social engineering’ aspect to this legislation which I predict will be used to attack Christian and Jewish parents who have a more traditional view of sex and relationships.

The Daily Telegraph added:

It also takes into account the legalisation of gay marriage by arguing that sex education should be taught using “gender neutral” language.

Teachers must include homosexual relationships in the curriculum and older children may be allowed to overrule their parents’ religious or moral objections, it states. “

In effect your children will be subjected to constant bombardment by socialist propaganda from primary school, and then later encouraged to overrule their parents wishes, even though the children are under the age of majority of 18.

As with similar legislation, I’m cynical enough to predict that it will not be Muslim families, who are very often extremely illiberal, who will be attacked or oppressed by this new law, but those from the Christian and Jewish communities, or others of a more secular point of view, who disagree with the militant LGBT agenda, either wholly or in part.

The Scottish government is also intending to pepper the whole curriculum with pro-LGBT propaganda in order to make it impossible for parents to withdraw their children from lessons where Relationship, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) issues are being discussed. This means that RSHP stuff will be crowbarred into English, Maths and History lessons so that there is no let-up from the socialist propaganda for either the child or the parents.

The Daily Telegraph continued:

Councils should consider the objections of any teacher who opposes the sex education programme but it should continue regardless, the document also states.

Teachers and schools are forbidden from promoting or endorsing heterosexual relationships over homosexual ones and they must “acknowledge” the legalisation of gay marriage.

They must also balance the role of the Internet in forming healthy new relationships with the potential for online grooming and child sexual exploitation.

Parents should be regularly consulted about the content of sex education lessons and those who object have the right to withdraw their child if “alternative positive educational provision” can be provided.”

The phrase ‘alternative positive educational provision’ is particularly ominous as it means that sure, you can withdraw your child from certain lessons, but you still have to teach the child the government approved propaganda.

This legislation is an attack on parental rights and responsibilities the like of which we have not seen on these Islands before. They remove from parents the right to bring up their children according to their own moral and ethical rules. From 2016, every parent in Scotland will have to deal with not only the normal worries that come with parenthood, but will have to continually look over their shoulder to make sure they don’t offend or have views that are counter to, the council appointed commissars, who will have ultimate power over what a child learns, thinks and believes.

Quite rightly there have been objections to the socialist clap-trap that the Scottish Parliament has created:

The Daily Telegraph added:

However, it is being challenged in the courts by the No To Named Persons (NO2NP) campaign group on the grounds it breaches data protection laws and the European Convention on Human Rights.

Liz Smith, Scottish Tory young people spokesman, said: “Parents will be extremely concerned to see formal government guidance which prioritises the role of a named person over their own.”

A spokesman for N02NP said: “How can a professional with potentially hundreds of kids to keep an eye on be given priority over the people that care about children the most – their own parents? Parents aren’t mentioned at all in the entire section on confidentiality in this guidance.”

The guidance on relationships, sexual health and parenthood (RSHP) advises teachers to consider “very carefully” their course of action if a child discloses that under age sex has taken place.

If there is judged to be a risk to the child’s well-being, staff should inform the child’s Named Person,” it says.

It also states: “Where a teacher receives information which affects or is likely to affect the well-being of a child or young person, relevant information must be shared as appropriate with the child’s Named Person.”

I concur with Liz Smith on this issue, parents should be extremely concerned about such intrusion which is backed up by the power of the Law. It is also not a matter that should be dismissed because it only affects Scotland, even though the Scots seem to be in favour of voting for any old statist, socialist toss, provided someone else is paying for it. This is a matter that should concern any parent anywhere in the United Kingdom. I can well imagine that a future Labour government, especially a minority one that needs to be propped up by the SNP, would be itching to bring the same sort of legislation into force in England, Wales or Northern Ireland as well. This sort of hyper-control is beloved of the Left. Under socialism, your children are not your own, they are the property of the State.

This legislation and the interpretation of it by the political Left must be resisted. Today they are attacking parents who do not subscribe to the doctrine of LGBT extremism, and generally chipping away at parental rights, tomorrow they may be taking children away from parents who object to forced mosque visits, or who question the theory of man-made climate change or even those who question the efficacy of child-centred education, who knows?

This is a pernicious and dangerous piece of legislation that I predict will bring about a combination of brainwashed young people and traditional families who will be both shattered and marginalised.

It is law that has very little to do with protecting children from harm, which is reasonable, and everything to do with remoulding society to match the Left’s twisted desires, and frightening parents away from criticising the mores and values of the Left. I’m all for tolerance being shown towards LGBT people, and I’ve marched, campaigned and worked for such tolerance during my life, but a free society requires that those who question whether we should promote LGBT issues to children should also be respected. This new law does not do that and is incompatible with any idea of what should be acceptable in a free society. This is not the promotion of tolerance, this is bullying parents to shut them up and make them fearful of the State.
