From Elsewhere – Pakistan has become a hell hole for religious minorities

Campaigners march for the release of Christian woman Asia Bibi who was arrested for blasphemy and to abolish Pakistan's blasphemy laws.

I have written extensively on this blog about the plight of religious minorities in Pakistan. This blog has detailed how minorities such as Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and others are treated as ‘untermenschen’ by the majority Muslim population. Islamic supremacism in Pakistan has ensured that members of minority religious cannot feel safe or even be treated as equals with Muslims.

The situation for religious minorities has been bad for years and Pakistan has seen the number of members of religious minorities sink from 23% at independence in 1947 to just under 4% of the population today. This is a situation that is unlikely to improve and is liable to get worse.

To get some idea how worse things can get, how Pakistan got to where it is today and how insecure are the lives of members of religious minorities in Pakistan, you need only need to take a look at a recent article on this subject by the Gatestone Institute. The article examines the constant and daily threats to the lives of Christians and other religious minorities along with how non Muslims are treated as second class citizens. Pakistan’s non Muslims live with the constant threat of being charged with ‘blasphemy’ and either being imprisoned because of it or torn apart by a savage Muslim mob if not imprisoned. Even in court the word of a Christian or a Hindu or a Sikh is dismissed as being inherently unreliable due to the witness being a non Muslim. The Gatestone Institute piece noted the steep drop in the numbers of religious minorities even during a period when the Pakistani population as a whole was growing and the article draws some worrying conclusions as to where the country’s religious minorities have gone.

Gatestone said:

If you are a non-Muslim there, that means you have to face and accept discrimination, lack of religious freedom, and physical and psychological torture as part of your daily life.

It is routine to hear that some girl from a Christian, Hindu or other minority community is raped and killed, or has been forcibly converted. A person is murdered by a mob for alleged blasphemy; some non-Muslim men, women or children are sentenced to death for a supposed blasphemy they never committed.

Muslims burn their homes, burn places of worship, burn their holy books, even burn their women and children alive — and there is no law or punishment to prevent this criminal behaviour or to make non-Muslims safe. There is no one who speaks for them. According to Islamic doctrines, the value of a non-Muslim is that of filth that needs to be cleaned from the earth.

The author is not aware of even a single instance, in the 71 years since the creation of Pakistan, of someone being punished for killing, burning or raping a non-Muslim man, woman or child, or for burning their places of worship, their homes or their holy books.

Hate toward non-Muslims is a part of the school curriculum. Hate is taught in educational institutions at every level. Children are instructed at an early age that Christians, Jews and Hindus are the worst creatures and the enemies of Islam — so you must grow up and fight against them.

What has happened in Pakistan regarding its religious minorities did not come about because of some specific cultural or social problem native to Pakistan. This nation’s religious minorities who, at Partition from India in 1947, opted to stay in Pakistan or were forced by circumstance to stay there, have not died or fled or changed their faith because of any of cause apart from Islam. It is Islam and its inbuilt imperative to hate non Muslims, that has created the situation where Pakistani non Muslims are treated as a sort of disposable, exploitable serf class.

The Gatestone article is both informative and sobering in its assessment of the conditions for religious minorities in Pakistan. It is also a dire warning about what happens when Islam is given any influence over political and cultural life. When the Imperial Power which was the British Empire left the Indian Sub-continent to govern itself, it left behind two nations, one Hindu majority nation India which has prospered and grown and an Islamic nation, Pakistan, which has rapidly descended into hell. There has been no specific local problems that have caused Pakistan’s decline apart from Islam and it is because of this that we can see quite clearly how Islam damages societies and nations.

There is nothing different or special about the sort of Islam that rules Pakistan, it’s normal, bog standard, orthodox Islam. It is this Islam that has ruined Pakistan and it is this same Islam also that ruins and corrupts just about ever culture and nation that it establishes itself in. The Islam that has turned Pakistan into a byword for horror and corruption is the same Islam that our idiotic politicians are telling us is a ‘religion of peace’. Until we learn to dismiss the ‘religion of peace’ claim as the lie which it truly is and come to see that the Islam that has damaged Pakistan is no different from the Islam that is being imported, then we will continue to see the horrors that Islam has inflicted on Pakistan being reproduced in countries across Europe and North America. Islam kills civilisations and there is no greater evidence of that than what it has done to Pakistan.
