Friday Night Movie number 135 – ‘Strongroom’

I discovered this 1962 gem recently and it is a great movie about a heist gone badly wrong. The plot of Strongroom concerns a pair of bank robbers who steal money from a bank and lock the manager and one of the bank’s employees in the strongroom.

The robber’s plan to have the pair of captives released falls flat and the robbers realise that they will not be able to get the keys to anybody who could open the door and release the captives before the air runs out in the strongroom.

When they realise that they are going to have deaths on their hands and as at the time deaths occurring during a robbery were likely to incur the death penalty, they try to find their own way of releasing the captives.

This is an interesting and tense robbery and police procedural drama that is well written and well worth a watch.

Excellent choice – I found this on “Talking Pictures TV” a while ago, and have watched it a couple of times. Nice to see Colin Gordon getting a starring role – I think I only knew him as the modern poetry-reading newscaster in the Alastair Sim comedy – “The Green Man” – who keeps finding his (very attractive) fiancee in increasingly-compromising situations with George Cole’s amateur-detective cum inept vacuum-cleaner salesman.
