From Elsewhere: Well done Gab

Because the Gab platform has been a staunch supporter of First Amendment style freedom of speech, they have been under continuous attack by Big Tech. They have been deplatformed by hosting companies, payment services and those companies supplying other essential services required to run a successful internet business. Gab, because of its commitment to freedom of speech has been smeared and attacked constantly by the mainstream media and called a ‘Nazi site’.

Of course, any free speech environment will attract extremes of viewpoint and Gab does have these viewpoints on there, not just Nazis but also those who are of the Left as well. What those who smear Gab fail to point out is that Gab contains a considerable number of moderates, centrists and mainstream conservatives who use Gab primarily because they appreciate the lack of censorship. Many would also be surprised to find out, because the MSM doesn’t tell them, is is that Gab also contains a lot of Jews of a variety of political opinion, including myself.

Because Gab was deplatformed and attacked often unjustly, it has been forced to become its own host, tech support and payment provider. They’ve done this in an astonishingly efficient way and they’ve done this on a tight budget.

The latest news from Gab is that they are announcing that they are going to become, in their words, ‘a lot more resilient’. What they’ve done is to build their own hosting infrastructure.

The Gab press release said:

Today is a tremendous milestone for the Gab community. After over a year of work Gab is finally migrated to our own in-house servers. If you talk to anyone in the technology industry they will tell you that this is no easy task. Most technology startups have the luxury of using third-party cloud hosting providers like Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and others.

Gab does not have this luxury.

Over the past four years we have been banned from multiple cloud hosting providers and were told that if we didn’t like it we should “build our own.”

So, that’s exactly what we did.

Gab isn’t just building an alternative social network. We’re building an alternative internet. From hosting infrastructure to web browsing and more: Gab is the market leader when it comes to defending free speech against Silicon Valley tyranny online.

For a typical Gab user our new infrastructure means a noticeable improvement on site performance and speed that will scale as Gab continues to grow.

Today’s accomplishment is only possible because of people like you.

Gab is 100% funded by our community of people, not big corporate sponsors. On Gab you are the customer, not the product being sold. We’d like to send a special thank you to our donors, investors, and GabPRO customers who made today possible. Thank you also to our team of engineers behind the scenes who worked tirelessly for over a year to make this happen.

The war for free speech on the internet has only just begun, but today a big battle was won.

God bless,

I praise Gab for the work that they’ve done to create this new infrastructure. I may not agree with every user of the platform, especially not the lunatic Nat Socs and equally ‘out there’ flat earthers on Gab, but disagreement with and not blind approval of others, with all views being able to be aired, is an important part of any culture that embraces freedom of speech.
