From Elsewhere: Spot on from the Journalist Bari Weiss.

One thing I’ve noticed about history and history’s interaction with the Jewish people is that life is better for Jewish people, as it is for everyone else, in free societies. It’s not coincidence that nations built on the concept of personal liberty under a legal system that protects them, such as the United States, have also been those where Jews have not just survived but thrived. When Britain was a free nation, unencumbered with political correctness and political policing, Britain was the place for Jews to go. In places like the US and the UK Jews could worship freely and not have to live their lives in constant danger that the ruler would turn on Jews should they need some sort of scapegoat if the political situation got bad. Whilst life in free nations was not always perfect, there were always places where Jews were excluded from either by law or custom up until relatively recent decades, life in the UK or the USA was always going to be a better bet than life in Russia for example.

Classical liberalism and a respect for liberty and the rights of the individual of the sort that built the UK and the USA, has been a blessing for all those who live under these systems and it has benefited the Jewish people. But the growth of the far Left and the threat that the Far Left may displace liberalism with something far worse is now more than a mere thought experiment and is something that could, if things do not change, become an awful reality.

In majority non Jewish nations, Jews have always been ‘the other’. Sometimes Jews being seen as the ‘other’ may not be too much of an issue as it is in the modern USA or UK but in different situations, such as in Nazi Germany or in some parts of Eastern Europe today, being other carries with it a lethal or potentially lethal threat.

The Jewish journalist Bari Weiss who was sacked from the New York Times a while back for not going along with the cancel culture ideology, is warning that the replacement of liberalism with the ideology of the far Left is going to be terrible for America’s Jews. She is worried that Jewish classical liberals who support biblical ideals of fairness, justice and righting historical wrongs will increasingly be seen as ‘racist’ by the Left because such Jews insist on being Jewish and therefore separate from the sort of culture that the Left wants to create.

Ms Weiss’s argument has a lot to commend it and I see her piece that she wrote for The Tablet Magazine but which is featured in World Israel News as a warning of what might happen to Jews should the far Left gain even more control than they have at present.

The World Israel News article said:

American Jewish journalist Barri Weiss warned Thursday in Tablet Magazine that radical new ideologies that are taking over American social behavior threaten not only traditional American liberalism, but also the future of American Jewry.
“American liberalism is in danger. A new ideology is rising to replace it—and it has dangerous implications for Jews,” said Weiss in a tweet about her piece.
Weiss writes that the recent decision by Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to cancel her participation in a memorial service for Nobel Peace Prize winner Yitzhak Rabin was a warning to America’s Jewish community.
Jews, Weiss says, were confused and shocked that AOC would reject an event aimed at celebrating peace, rather than realizing that the “progressive superstar… was sending a clear signal about who belongs in the new progressive coalition and who does not.”

It’s difficult not to see the warning signs here. If AOC cannot bring herself to attend the memorial to a man who went from fighter to peacemaker, then it’s clear that no believing Jew belongs in the Progressive tent.

The World Israel News article continued:

“Unlike Trump, this one (far left thought and criticial race theory) has attained cultural dominance, capturing America’s elites and our most powerful institutions,” Weiss writes, warning that if Biden wins the presidential election the radical movement may not be checked.
“I am here to ring the alarm. I’m here to say: Do not be shocked anymore. Stop saying, can you believe. It’s time to accept reality, if we want to have any hope of fixing it.”
Weiss says that in the past liberal America espoused among other things the “sacredness of the individual over the group or the tribe” and “the belief that due process and the presumption of innocence are good and that mob violence is bad.”
“This was a world in which Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg could be close friends. Because, as Scalia once said, some things are more important than votes.”
“No longer. American liberalism is under siege. There is a new ideology vying to replace it.”

If the Far Left and their warehouse full of hatreds manage to push out American classical liberalism then it’s plan that Jews will be in danger in America. If the far Left win it could even destroy America as we know it? Ms Weiss speaks some wise words in her piece and so does the World Israel News commentator. The Jews are the canaries in the far Left coalmine and what may happen to Jews will without a doubt happen to many non Jews who refuse to bow down to the idols of the far Left later on. The left must be countered, for all our sakes.
