Is it time for a British ‘walk away’ movement, but one with a very British twist?

Time to walk away from the parties that have served Britons so badly so far.

I’ve been incredibly impressed by the American ‘walk away’ movement where normal reasonable people reject the Democrat Party on the grounds that the Democrats have shifted so far Left that this party no longer deserves the vote of the average American. A whole host of American voters who would normally be expected to be Democrat supporters and who supported the Democrats when they were a more politically reasonable party, are declaring that they can no longer give the Democrats their support. Voters from across the board and from different demographic groups are saying that for all President Trump’s faults, that they would be voting for Mr Trump as the alternative would be so destructive to America that they cannot in all good conscience vote Democrat.

Watching the growth of the ‘Walk Away’ movement has made me wonder whether such a movement is needed in the United Kingdom? I believe that it is needed. However for Britain such a walk away movement would need to have a very British twist. This is because in Britain, unlike in the USA, we are not faced with a situation where one party is radically different from the other, but where the two main parties are too much the same. Those of us who voted Conservative at the last General Election have been increasingly horrified at how socialist the Tories have become. A lot of us cannot bring ourselves to vote for the Labour Party either as they are also socialist. In Britain we also have the option of voting for the Liberal Democrats but they are no longer either classically liberal nor particularly supportive of democracy. British voters are in a bit of a quandary. Whoever we vote for, some form of socialism or statism will be the end result.

So what do we do? My suggestion would be the creation of a British walk away movement but not a movement to walk from one major party to another, but to reject ALL of them and instead vote for one of the increasingly credible liberty focussed alternative parties such as Heritage or Reclaim.

The Big Two parties rely on the electorate perceiving that there are only two possible options for a governing party in the UK, Labour or Tory. The Liberal Democrats rely on picking up the protest votes of those who dislike both the Labour and Tory parties but will still only give us similar policies to that offered by the Big Two. This means that the great many Britons who do not want what either the Big Two and the Lib Dems are offering, are to a large extent disenfranchised and not properly represented in Parliament.

Normal Britons, you know the sort who want strong borders, liberty to speak freely, an academically vigorous education system, an end to top down green politics being forced on everyone, a strong defence capability and a strong and free economy, are consistently ignored by all three of the parties mentioned above. Sure, these parties might throw the occasional bone to the public during election time such as promising, but subsequently failing, to deliver things like migration control, but the are not representing majority opinion. We are forced to choose between three statist and semi-socialist offerings from the political Establishment.

We should no longer tolerate this. We should all walk away and support those parties that are more likely to support us, the British people. We don’t even have to wait until the next General Election or even next year’s local elections in order to do this. We can help parties like Reclaim and Heritage get their ground game going NOW. We should request posters and leaflets for these parties and start distributing them widely, we should tell our friends and family about credible alternatives to the Tories, Labour and the Lib Dems. We should put up an electoral and political fight against those who for the most part are only out to represent themselves and not those who elected them.

We need to walk away from the parties that have promised so much but who have delivered so little. The Brexit vote showed that British people can be engaged in politics and maybe it’s time to rediscover the people power that triumphed in 2016, to put better people into the House of Commons? I’m going to walk away from the Tories who have massively let me and my nation down and I believe that others should walk away from the Big Two and the Lib Dems and reinvigorate what has become a terribly moribund party political system.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. I couldn’t consider voting Labour, the Conservatives are socialist tyrants with an insane despot as their leader, the other mainstream parties like the LibDems and Greens are crackpots. There’s no party which represents my views apart from the Heritage Party so if they field a candidate around here they’ll be getting my vote.

Well said there. The Establishment parties are the problem. As regards alternative parties, I tend towards the Reclaim Party as their free speech and cultural protection messages chime with me. Some Heritage Party’s policies, such as their architecture one I find a bit of a turn off and remind me a little of the forced nostalgia of Prince Charles’s Poundbury architectural vanity project. Others such as turning back the enforced policy of both Establishment parties of making us accept green bullshit are Heritage policies that I agree with. Reclaim is the party that I’d be more likely to join but I would vote for either in my area depending on which one manages to get the most support and is most likely to push out the current wet blanket Tory.

  2. Interesting, the big problem will be reaching people… Then convincing folks that it is in their best interests. The usual rule of 3 is a hurdle though. If people are 1, fed 2, comfortable and 3, entertained they’re unlikely to challenge the statue quo. Yes people speak up about thing they genuinely don’t agree with, like the state of free speech in the UK… But will rarely act upon that outrage unless they themselves or someone within the social circle directly encounter it. This is a great idea, but would need a beefy grass roots movement to take hold quite quickly. Traction would need to be gained fast.

You should reach out to reclaim and see if you cant get the ball rolling. This country is in desperate need of an alternative to the varying flavours of inept socialism currently available.
