RIP Harry – Harry’s Place Blog appears to be no more.

UPDATE:  I was wrong.  Their site did disappear and the blog has had a bit of  a slowdown in recent years but can now be found here  http://hurryupharry.net/

Despite being a conservative and on the centre right in general, I’ve always respected those on the Left who can reasonably be said to be on the more sensible parts of the Left. There are those whose views tend to the Left who are not screaming racist nutcases, who hate Jews and who do not refer to women as ‘menstruators’. These are the Leftists who in my youth were from what I could refer to as the ‘proper’ Left. People who came often from the working class themselves and who fought for the rights of the working class. There is a distinct difference between the traditional working class Left of the past and the Metro-left of today with their Islamopandering, obsession with minor issues such as gender and sexuality and their naked hatred of the working classes.

One place where sensible lefties used to gather was the blog Harry’s Place. Sadly this blog appears to be no more. For the last few days when I’ve tried to access Harry’s Place all I have got back is a placeholder stating that the domain has not been renewed. If this is not merely an oversight by the managers of Harry’s Place then I have to assume that Harry’s Place is now no more.

This is a great shame as Harry’s Place (see wiki) provided a place for the sensible left, along with their challengers from both within the left and outside of it to debate. It also provided a forum for Islamic reformers and those liberal Muslims to put over their points of view. The demise of Harry’s Place is a terrible thing for British politics and British political debate as it was broadly non partisan and unlike many other places in the left blogosphere, was accepting and encouraging of freedom of speech and freedom of debate.

I hope and pray that the disappearance of Harry’s Place is a mere technical or admin error but somehow I don’t think that it is. I think we’ve lost one of the better left wing debate chambers and British politics will be much poorer for its passing.

I think its only temporary. The twitter account is still active and they have indicated that they are in their own words ‘working on it’ as regards to the unavailability of their website.

Thanks for the information on that. If you are correct then I’ll be glad to be proven wrong and make an announcement that Harry is not dead. It’s just worrying that it’s been about four days since I last saw Harry active. I might not be a Left winger but I want to see open debate among the Left and not dogmatism as we all,no matter where we are on the political spectrum, benefit from open debate.
