The unappealing appeals

Claudia Webbe MP.

Convicted criminal harasser and purveyor of acid attack threats Claudia Webbe the MP for Leicester East, who got an incredibly lenient sentence for her crimes, is going to appeal her conviction. The appeal hearing is scheduled for early March and it’s likely that it will be after that hearing that we will hear any result of it.

It’s a risky undertaking for Webbe to appeal. If the court finds that the lower Magistrates Court were right to convict her then it is quite possible that her initial very lenient sentence that she got at the Magistrates Court might be replaced by one much more harsh.

Still I suppose that to Webbe this is a minor risk as she has now got from now until the appeal concludes to carry on getting paid for being an MP and being allowed to stick her nose into the Parliamentary expenses trough. A recall petition cannot be set in motion until all the appeal processes have been concluded. This means that Webbe, who doesn’t seem to have provided the best of services to her constituents, will continue to suck up public money from a very generous teat to the tune of at least £35k which is roughly half a year’s salary for an MP less expenses of course. Nice non-work if you can get it.
