There a lot of people in Britain who dislike Islam or who wish to be able to debate about this ideology or criticise it or call for the reform of this ideology. Those who do this do not necessarily dislike individual Muslims but do have criticisms of the ideology. Sensible people recognise that just as a person can be a heterodox Christian or a heterodox Jew and not be a fundamentalist, so also can a person be from a Muslim background and not be an extremist.
But there are those who wish to halt any debate about Islam. Some of those who wish to do so are Islamic extremists who want a situation where no criticism of Islam is allowed, some are groups that are specifically set up to fight ‘Islamophobia’ but by doing so remove the possibility of Islam being subjected, as all religious and secular ideologies should be, to criticism and debate. There are also those on the Left and on the Liberal-left who see, wrongly in my view, criticism of Islam as some form of racism.
Precluding debate on Islam harms our society. It means that we cannot openly and freely debate those issues where Islam meshes with our society and where it does not. It also means that we cannot criticise Islamic extremism or suggest ways to tackle it. All it takes is an accusation of ‘Islamophobia’ and the debate is shut down.
As well as hurting the general society, accusations of ‘Islamophobia’ also harm those Muslims who wish to reform Islam or criticise or debate aspects of Islamic culture and theology. ‘Islamophobia’ as a group of liberal and free thinking Muslims have put it in a short video embedded below, is the accusation that silences dissent.
It’s worth watching this short ten minute video that I found on the excellent Twitter feed of Baroness Claire Fox to see how accusations of ‘Islamophobia’ prevent Muslims themselves from speaking out.
The slow erosion of our culture and national identity is gathering pace. Just why is a mystery when thousands are fleeing Islamic countries and risking their lives to get to the UK only to seek to recreate the conditions they fled from once they are here.
The problem as I see it is that misguided policies of multiculturalism have allowed those from difficult to assimilate cultures to just not bother making the effort, sometimes a big effort, that is needed to assimilate. The upshot is that Muslims like the sort in this video find themselves just as unable to speak freely in Britain than they would be in Islam dominated nations. What we’ve done by legitimising the nonsense word ‘Islamophobia’ is given a weapon to the worst of the worst within Islam. Because of that word and the power that the idiot left have given it is that now Muslims who believe women are equal, it’s wrong to hate Jews, religious violence is wrong and who want to bring valid criticisms about Islam to the table find themselves silenced.
If you make it easy for religious extremists then you get more religious extremism. What faces Muslims in Britain with regard to having the moderate voice heard is a state and a left wing that only listens to orthodox Muslim opinion and only takes seriously orthodox Muslim organisations, your poor old Muslim liberals don’t seem to get a look in. This issue is worsened by the Left who see extremist and ultra orthodox Muslims as being the only authentic Muslims.

No quite so. The issue is that the Left, particularly the hard left see extremist and ultra-orthodox Muslims as kindred spirits, and mistakenly, as fellow revolutionaries to destroy western capitalism, the nuclear family and their favourite “American imperialism” and their Zionist proxies.
Those on the left, except for Muslims & converts immersed in Marxism, completely fail to see the dangers, that they are merely “useful-idiots”, tools to be exploited by those wanting to impose an Islamic Caliphate under Shariah on the world, country by country. Those same Leftist useful-idiots, discarded or disposed of when they’ve served their purpose.
An addendum to the above. You can see the results in various councils and constituencies, such as Tower Hamlets where Labour used corrupt unverifiable mosque-whipped mass Muslim postal votes to grab power, but when Muslim numbers were high enough and they’d got their people into positions of unassailable influence, the Labour husk, sucked dry, was dumped, and a solely Muslim caucus installed. Needless to say this was trumpeted by the left and the cowed as a triumph of integration, diversity and inclusivity, when it was in reality, the triumph of an insular, exclusive, monoculture, toxic to any who didn’t fit; whites, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, who the move or are forced out, leaving a corrupt, hostile shariah shithole, a malignancy, in place, for the wider taxpayer to nurture. Needless to say, pointing this out is, what’s that term……. Errrrmmm, oh yes…. “phobic”.
The problem with the Left is that they haven’t learned the lessons of the Iranian Revolution. The Left backed the Mullahs thinking that they could ride their coat tails to power but the Mullahs, when they got power just murdered the leftists. You are correct when you say that there is a large proportion of the Left who will support anything and anyone that is anti-Western.
