Pakistan is, as many of the readers of this blog’s ‘Now That’s Why Pakistan Is A Shithole’ strand will by now understand is a highly unsafe place to be if you are a religious minority. Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists are discriminated against and even subjected to false Islamic blasphemy charges that can result in long gaol terms or even the death penalty.

In addition to the discrimination meted out to followers of the above faiths, those Muslims who follow a heterodox Islamic path also suffer discrimination and violence. One of the minority Muslim groups that greatly suffers in Pakistan are the Ahmadi Muslims. The Ahmadi Muslim community in Pakistan is it is fair to say beleaguered. They suffer from discrimination and as we can see in this episode of ‘Now That’s Why Pakistan Is A Shithole’ are subjected to lethal violence.

The Pakistani newspaper Dawn (h/t Religion of Peace website) tells of an Ahmadi that has been murdered presumably because of his faith.

Dawn said:

A member of the Ahmadi community was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Mandi Bahauddin district of Punjab on Wednesday evening, police said, adding that the incident was being investigated as a suspected targeted killing.

According to City police station Station House Officer (SHO) Saleem Bakhsh, the incident took place around 6:30pm on Main Eidgah Road within the jurisdiction of City police station. The location is just a few metres from the office of the deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Saddar Circle.

The victim was identified in the initial police report as a resident of Lalazar, Mandi Bahauddin.

DSP Saddar Circle Mandi Bahauddin Rana Jameel Ahmed, while speaking to Dawn, confirmed that the victim belonged to the Ahmadi community.

Police said the victim was returning home after closing his workshop when two unidentified men allegedly followed him. When he reached the main road near the central Eidgah, the attackers opened fire on him.

He sustained critical gunshot wounds and died at the scene. The two assailants fled after the shooting.

Sadly Mr Bahauddin is not the first Ahmadi Muslim to be murdered because of his religion and sadly will not be the last.
