I read on Turbulent Times, the website of Dr Richard North, about a recent hatchet job done on the Reform Party by the UK broadcaster Channel 4. I must admit that the party’s willingness to apparently take unpermitted overseas donations for the purpose of funding an opinion poll looks bad. This is manna from heaven for the denizens of SW1 and the regime media. This hatchet job might indeed be the source of mud that might stick to Reform although then again it might not as we saw from the recent by-election where Reform leader Nigel Farage held his seat in a by-election called by Mr Farage as an impromptu referendum on his reputation having been investigated by Parliamentary authorities about personal donations he is alleged to have received.
But what gets me about this case is Reform’s stupidity. It’s blatantly obvious that Reform is a threat to the Uniparty, they have to a large extent broken the political mould and are therefore now a threat to the Tories, Labour and the Liberal Democrats as Reform are about the only party with any solid degree of support who are talking about the negative effects of failed Uniparty policies in areas such as migration. Because Reform pose such a great threat to the Uniparty senior Reform operatives should have been aware that the Uniparty would try various dirty tricks to try to damage Reform and to set up situations that make Reform look bad.
Because of this Reform should have been a lot more wary of what games might be played by their opponents and taken appropriate steps to not get caught out by these games. They should have kept a tighter rein on the third parties who were allegedly involved in attempting to get unpermitted foreign funding for opinion polling. Reform should have had the political sense and nous to understand that they are going to be attacked and be attacked by methods that have the strong sniff of entrapment.
Reform have approached this issue with all the naivety of a wealthy tourist in central London walking around carrying a sign saying ‘fleece me’. They should have understood that underhand games would be played against them and taken steps to ensure that whatever games were being played would not find a target.
Reform really got caught out too easily here. Reform need to harden up, be a lot more wary and a lot more paranoid about people that approach the party or any third parties that might be associated with the party. This is not the first time that Uniparty aligned groups or individuals have tried to make Reform look sleazy and it won’t be the last. In this case Reform staff have been their own worst enemy and given the Uniparty and their aligned media a stick to beat Reform with. Things need to change in Reform with regards to security and control as there will be more and more incidents of stings and entrapments coming out as the General Election approaches.
Reform have moved very very swiftly to contain this issue and the individuals who are alleged to have been caught out by the sting by Channel Four have stepped down from involvement with the party. Reform are going to have an internal investigation and hopefully what will come out of that investigation will be not just admonishment for those who got caught out but also a tougher and more paranoid approach to gift horses whose mouths should be looked at a lot more closely than Reform appeared to do in this case.
