I’ve seen British politicians do some disgraceful things for base party political purposes over the years. I’ve seen politicians follow ludicrous paths in order to either shore up their own party’s vote or take votes away from other parties. However I’ve rarely seen a British politician do anything as shameful as what Britain’s ‘worse than a Kapo’ Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has done regarding Israel which is an ally of Britain, who supplies intelligence to Britain to prevent terror attacks and is a nation that supplies approximately 15% of the medicines that the NHS needs.

According to a post on the Guido Fawkes site the Labour government is going to sanction goods from the Judea and Shomron areas of Israel which became part of Israel when they were captured following yet another attack on Israel by Arab nations.

Guido said that the sanctions will comprise the following:

An import ban from all goods produced in illegal settlements in Judea and Shomron areas (ed: that Western politicians call the ‘West Bank’.)

A package targeting companies and individuals providing construction, infrastructure, financing or real estate services for settlement expansion.

A ‘double lock’ on arms exports. All licence applications for arms and other exports materially contributing to the ‘occupation’ will be refused for as long as the occupation persists.

The official position of the British government is that the ‘occupation of Palestinian territory’ is ‘unlawful’.

The Government agrees that there is ‘ethnic cleansing’ of Palestinians in areas of the West Bank by ‘settler terrorists’.

Coordinated with France and Canada, both announcing import bans today (following the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Spain and Norway.)

Sanctions on Lebanon’s financing arm also announced

Trade with ‘green line’ Israel will continue and Miliband denied that he is a supporter of the Boycott Disinvestment and Sanctions campaign.

These policies are to a large extent based on internal political considerations rather than linked to any of the many international agreements for example those concerning arms control. Britain, because of the influence of the notoriously Arabist Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (they are nicknamed ‘The Camel Corps for sadly good reasons) was pretty strict on issuing either Standard Individual Export Licences or Open Individual Export Licences for Israel prior to this announcement. Hostility to Israel is not a new thing when it comes to His Majesty’s Government.

The recent announcement of sanctions against Israel is I believe less connected to international agreements or human rights considerations and much more to do with shoring up Labour’s Muslim vote and to stop it being syphoned off to the now rabidly Jew hating Green Party. It’s probable that the FCO’s Kapo Miliband made this announcement in large part with an eye on retaining Sir Keir Starmer’s old seat of Holborn and St Pancras where there is a by-election on the 8^th October of this year. This was once a very very safe Labour seat but the Greens are a major challenger because of their open hostility to Jews and to Israel, something that will undoubtedly attract Muslim voters.

There’s a large element of performative behaviour in this announcement along with stuff that will hurt and not help the Arab residents of Judea and Shomron. It will mean job losses for Arabs employed in businesses in these areas as the Labour government has now removed an export market for companies based there.

The ban on financing settlements might not amount to much and it’s likely that alternative funding for this purpose might come from elsewhere. Miliband’s grandstanding might lose British companies money and instead give an opportunity for American companies to step in.

The stricter approach to export licences might not be as bad as it seems because of the FCDO’s involvement in the granting or not of export licences as this department is notoriously hostile to Israel anyway and the FCDO has probably had a hand in refusing some export licences anyway despite this latest announcement. The arms exports sanctions will not affect the export of parts to Israel for the F35 aircraft as these are exempted from these new restrictions from what I can see. In addition it’s unclear whether or not the new restrictions will apply only to arms exports ie stuff on what is called The Military List or whether it also affects what are called Dual Use Goods. Dual Use items are goods that could have either a military or a civilian application, some radar and surveillance equipment could come under dual use goods as could certain computer equipment.

The statements about the settlements in Judea and Shomron being ‘illegal’ and about ‘ethnic cleansing’ are I believe purely there to placate Britain’s Islamic communities and to hold onto the whipped mosque vote for Labour. It should be noted that the current government which has a lot to say about Israel appears to have very little to say about the mass murders of Christians by Muslims in Nigeria or the ongoing slaughter in Sudan, odd that isn’t it. No Jews no news or rather in the case of the UK government no Jews no hand-wringing about human rights.

Britain has by its actions damaged relationships with an ally Israel but also damaged relationships with the United States.

I know some will blanch at calling Miliband a Kapo, it’s the worst thing one Jew can call another, but that’s what he is. In fact he’s worse than the Kapos, the renegade Jews who served the Nazis in the camps. Those Kapos were forced into doing what they did, they were threatened with death if they did not comply with Nazi orders. Miliband on the other hand has not acted out of duress, he’s chosen to behave as he has. He’s chosen to behave treasonably twice over not just to his own religious group and his ancestors but also to Britain the nation that rescued his family from the bloody maw of the Nazis.

Israel has of course retaliated and is justified in doing so. It is justified as I would want Britain to act in a similar way should some other nation treat Britain the way that Britain has treated Israel. Israel’s response is not as harsh though as the punishments in Deuteronomy 28 vs 15 to 61, Miliband’s kids are not being carried off into captivity for example but what Israel has done will hurt Britain.

Israel has closed Britain’s consulate in Jerusalem, banned many MP’s from entering Israel including Jeremy Corbyn, Richard ‘Benny’ Burgon, Carla Denyer the MP for Britain’s worst city for crime and communism aka Bristol and many others. It remains to be seen whether Israel will further punish Britain by way of selectively suspending intelligence sharing or supplying Britain with vital equipment for the British Army’s tanks.

Miliband and Burnham’s grandstanding in order to get back the Muslim vote might have dire consequences for our military, for the cancer patients who rely on Israeli manufactured medicines and for the fight against Islamic terrorism. It’s very likely that this episode of Labour Islamopandering to save the former Prime Minister’s Parliamentary seat for Labour might have huge and unforeseen costs. However it’s unlikely that Labour as a party or its MP’s will pay that price it will be Britain’s troops who might be left with less capable defence equipment and the NHS who might find themselves unable to replace the medicines and equipment that are currently supplied by Israeli companies which will pay.

To sanction Israel in this way is a terrible decision which is likely to have some quite unpleasant consequences for Britons. However, what makes it worse is that it has not been done in order to further some geopolitical aim, that might at least be somewhat understandable if not supportable by myself, but done for something much more base and sleazy which is to pander to Muslims for party political reasons to stop them changing their votes from Labour to the Greens.

To conclude: This decision may not even be positive for the cause of peace. Turning so heavily against Israel may encourage Israelis to vote for the most hardline party or person available at elections. It may encourage amongst Israelis a feeling of we’ve got nothing to lose so we’ll vote for extremists or to go full ‘Millwall’ and say ‘no one likes us and we don’t care’. If you poke someone, as I’ve seen happen when I was a public disorder photographer, it’s unlikely that they’ll respond in a pacific way, it’s more likely that they’ll poke you back. The problem in this situation is that the Israelis and the Americans might poke Britain back in ways that we really won’t like and sadly in this situation they’d be morally justified in doing so.
