My attention was drawn recently to an absolutely brilliant and data filled article by Jeremy Musighi over at the Profound website. This article asks a vital and important question and that is why is Israel the subject of so much constant attention when worse regimes and much worse humanitarian catastrophes are being either ignored or only featured in news media for a very short amount of time.

This is a good question. The nation of Israel gets a massive amount of media attention an amount that is grossly out of proportion to what the nation and its wars could justifiably deserve. Mr Musighi points out that whilst other major geopolitical stories such as the mass starvation going on in Sudan or the pull out by American forces from Afghanistan only get a short amount of time where they are big stories on news outlets, stories about Israel stay in the news. This Mr Musighi says is not accidental. This is because journalists now behave like activists and keep the Israel story in the news and also because Israel has been targeted for decades by activists and agents from first the Soviet Union and latterly the Russians. Activists and agents from these countries have shaped how the issue of Israel is covered and kept in the news long after other geopolitical stories are yesterday’s chip paper.
