Reform’s ‘nuclear option’ for dealing with fake ‘refugees’.

According to a post in Spiked Magazine by Fraser Myers the Reform Party are setting out their stall on how they are going to deal with Britain’s massive problems with the asylum system. It’s worth a read.

Reform are posing that illegal migration and abuse of the asylum system is now so great a problem that the matter needs to be treated as a national security emergency. They are correct in that the current situation is a national security matter that needs to be dealt with in a manner that primarily benefits the British people. The ideas sound good but I question whether Reform have properly thought through the details of what will need to be done and what pushback or second order consequences might come out of this policy?

Fraser Myers said:

“Speaking at a Reform UK press conference, Farage set out his plan to declare a ‘national security emergency’, to impose a ban on all asylum claims for the next parliamentary term and to deport the 90,000 asylum seekers currently having their claims assessed. Legal resettlement schemes, such as the Homes for Ukrainians scheme and the Afghan resettlement scheme, would also be abolished (although settled Ukrainians and Afghans who worked with the British Army would be allowed to stay). Countries that refuse to take back their citizens would face visa bans and other sanctions, Farage said.

Reform’s plan really is the nuclear option, yet given the insanity of Britain’s current approach to asylum, such radicalism is surely what is called for. It is now apparent to anyone who cares to notice that the asylum system is merely a means of facilitating illegal migration. A Home Office whistleblower recently estimated that ‘at best’ no more than one per cent of asylum claims are genuine. ‘There’s almost no aspect of the asylum system that isn’t either a massive fraud or just really dysfunctional’, the official told The Times. Even the pro-migration UN has warned that Britain’s broken asylum system is granting residency to undeserving applicants. “

It is without a doubt a true fact that Britain’s asylum system is being abused by people who are not genuinely fleeing murderous oppression and is being used as a method of sidestepping legitimate methods of coming to and settling in the UK. It’s also true that despite the current government’s unwillingness to be transparent about the dangers posed by criminal migrants, we can all see what’s happening. We can all read the stories of the rapes, murders and other crimes carried out by those who have entered the country illegally and claimed asylum. Every one of the victims of these crimes might not have been a victim had not the perpetrators of these crimes been kept out of Britain or swiftly removed if they were already here.

Reform’s plan looks like a good one but I’d like to see more detail. I’d like more detail of how the plan will work, the practical steps that need to be taken to make it work, how to deal with the almost inevitable lawfare that will be used to try to stop this plan and how to deal with pushback from other nations and foreign NGO’s. A good sounding plan is one thing, a practical plan is something else entirely.

But Reform, unlike the Tories, are making the right noises about dealing with Britain’s asylum related national security emergency, but only time will tell if what Reform are giving us are just noises or something more practical.
