Australia, compared to many countries, has been relatively free of the scourge of political assassinations. It has an even better record than Britain where there have been nine assassinations since 1812 of MP’s murdered whilst in office and one, Ann Widdecombe, who was killed whilst not in office. I believe that it’s only about 56 MP’s that have been murdered since the 14th century. That’s a better record than some countries but Australia has managed to have a better political assassination record than even Britain had.
The last assassination of a former politician in Australia was in 1998 and that was less a political murder and more to do with an attempt by a paedophile to smear a retired politician with false paedophile allegations for blackmail purposes. Australia has if you look at the record has had a pretty peaceful political existence.
It’s this record that makes the attempted assassination in Australia of Independent MP Helen Haines so terribly shocking.
Ms Haines was critically injured in a vehicular homicide attack in the town of Wangaratta in the Australian state of Victoria. The alleged assailant, named as Brendan Nugent and said by the BBC to be part of a family that was friends with Ms Haines, is being described as an ‘environmental campaigner’. There is no official information coming out of Australia as to Nugent’s motives for allegedly carrying out this attack.
That’s not to say that there has not been speculation about Nugent’s motivations. The ‘larger than life’ character Drew Pavlou, who has made a name for himself as an anti-Communist China and anti-immigration activist has decided to wade in to this story. He is alleging that Nugent is a supporter the Houtis and is a ‘left wing terrorist’.
Here’s what Mr Pavlou said on X:
“BREAKING: An extremist Palestine supporter just carried out Australia’s first attempted political assassination in thirty years. Radical left-wing terrorist and Houthi supporter Brendan Nugent rammed independent MP Helen Haines with his car, shattering her lower body and critically injuring her. She will probably lose both her legs and could still die of critical injuries. Pray for Helen’s recovery. She is actually a progressive MP who spoke out for Gaza, yet the crazy terrorist still targeted her.”
Because of Mr Pavlou’s record, which includes complaints about his conduct whilst at university and disrupting a match at the Wimbledon Tennis Championship and being refused entry to the USA for threatening to move into singer Billie Eilish’s house, I’d like some secondary confirmation of what Mr Pavlou is claiming. I’d like to see some more solid evidence to back up Mr Pavlou’s claims. He’s been right on stuff in the past but is he correct this time? It could also be the case that Nugent is just a common or garden mental case who has gone over the edge?
However Mr Pavlou is correct when he says that no matter what is done or said by a politician will be enough to satisfy the crowd of sometimes violent Pally Wankers that have infested the Western world including Australia. A politician could meet all the Pally Wankers demands and join them on the streets for their hate marches but it still would not be enough. The left wing Pally Wankers will not be satisfied with sanctions or boycotts of Israel they want Israel destroyed and its inhabitants murdered or scattered. The Islamic extremist branch of the Pally Wankers want the same but for religious rather than political reasons, as it is an affront to them for Jews to have sovereignty over any land whatsoever.
Because of the unwillingness to be satisfied with politicians words or actions on the issue of Israel and a noted disapproval of any compromise on the issue the Pally Wankers are dangerous. They are dangerous because nothing is enough for them. Margaret Thatcher was able to de-fang the neo-Nazi National Front in late 1970’s Britain by acknowledging that Britain had a migration problem. Whilst she failed in this task of stopping immigration she showed that the supporters of migration controls and remigration could be appeased. There’s no level of appeasement that will satisfy the Pally Wankers. Politically they are deranged.
The Pally Wankers are now so worked up and such prisoners of their own extremism that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that one or more of them could cross the line and engage in political assassinations. Whether it’s ‘Palestine’ at the root of the attack on Helen Haines remains to be seen, but I have little doubt, based on the record of this group for violence, that we will see more violence from the Pally Wankers.
