We all deserve much better policing than this

A short while ago I wrote of the death threats, presumably from Muslims and Leftists, that the independent journalist Jonaya English had received. The article outlined claims by Ms English, backed up by social media screenshots of the conversation, that the police were blaming her for the death threats she had received on the grounds that she had criticised Islam.

Ms English persisted with her complaint to the police but all to no avail. After failing to get any satisfaction from the officers to whom Ms English originally took her complaint to she visited a police station and had a conversation with a member of police staff, which Ms English quite wisely livestreamed. By doing this Ms English was able to show her followers and the public at large that a member of police staff implying that she caused the threats herself because she criticised ‘certain religions’. I must admit I would very much doubt that someone criticising Christianity or Judaism or Sikhism would find themselves faced with such weaselly and biased policing such as Ms English is facing merely for criticising the ideology of Islam.

It’s worth watching this short video by Ms English which shows her contact with a member of police staff.

The main emotions that I feel when I watch this video and hear Ms English’s description of how the police are failing to protect either her person, or her rights, are sadness and disgust. The sadness comes from seeing Greater Manchester Police reduced to having to let death threats pass by un-investigated because it might upset the Islamic community and the disgust comes from seeing Ms English treated in this appalling manner.

Ms English without a shadow of a doubt deserves better policing than she has had from Greater Manchester Police, in fact we all deserve much better than the sort of biased and weak policing that was shown not just in the video but in other statements by Ms English. Policing should protect everyone, not just a few and certainly not just the ‘offended’ members of ‘certain religions’ such as Islam.

  1. Should NEVER have happened to you! You have every right to write what you want especially since you are not writing any liable pieces of journalism. The Police should protect people equally no matter what religion, race sex etc is involved however you showed that they are not! They are showing a preferential treatment toward the Islamic religion.
There needs to be some recourse toward the person who threatened you and the Police who failed to do their duty to protect you.
