A slippery man joins an equally slippery party

Chuka Umunna. A Janus-faced politician joins a Janus-faced political party.

Chuka Umunna is a slippery and hypocritical man. He’s a former Labour Shadow Business Secretary who once called those visiting London’s West End ‘trash’ and who’s said to be a millionaire ex-lawyer who ostentatiously plays up his ‘poor roots’ in public. Chuka is also a man who loves the high life but who tries to hide that love from his working class constituents and who someone once said of him has ‘more faces than he has Armani suits’.

Mr Umunna encapsulates the image of the type of politician that are garnering so much scorn these days from the public. Self interested, overly self confident, materialistic and loving the power and prestige that political or elected office brings him. The phrase ‘having a sense of public duty’ is not one that I would give or apply to Mr Umunna.

It is therefore little surprise to me to see this morning that Chuka Umunna has at last found his political home in the Liberal Democrats. It is absolutely fitting that this Janus-faced politician and fan of the anti-democratic elitism of the European Union, should join an equally Janus-faced party that wants Britain to be subservient to the EU.

As an MP who defied the will of the people by going against a decision that was delegated by Parliament to the voters, he will mix well with a party that is neither liberal, in the pro-liberty sense of the word, nor democratic. This slippery man has finally found a slippery enough party to take him in. With the collapse of the Change UK / The Independent Group Party, which became known by some as ‘Chuka’s Cuckers’, it was almost inevitable that Umunna would wash up in the Liberal Democrats. After all where else would a two faced political chancer go but to a Liberal Democrat party comprised of a lot of people I would refuse to buy a used car from?
