With approximately half of the votes in the local council elections counted and announced, and UKIP doing very well, the poll has thrown up a very welcome result and that is the humiliation of the Liberal Democrats Sleaze and Sex Pest party in one of the key councils that they controlled.

The result in Portsmouth where alleged ‘teen fondler’ and pursuer of vulnerable women, Mike Hancock, has lost his council seat should be welcomed by all who believe in honest politics. Portsmouth council itself has been wrested from the Lib Dems with Portsmouth now going to No Overall Control. The Lib Dems lost 7 council seats on Portsmouth council with 6 going to UKIP and 1 to ‘other’. Hancock, or ‘Handycock’ as he is known was pushed into third place in his ward by a surge of votes for UKIP.

Portsmouth under the Lib Dems has been said to be a political cess-pit not only because of the bedroom antics of ‘Handycock’ but because of the persistent rumours of corruption and incompetence that have swirled around Portsmouth Lib Dems.

To my knowledge there has been at least one claim that there may have been ‘planning permission irregularities’ in Portsmouth with Islamic groups being given planning permission for Islamic Madrassas and mosques in exchange for the ‘whipped mosque vote’ going to the Lib Dems.

It is good that the reign of misrule that the good people of Portsmouth have been subjected to by the Lib Dems for so many years is now over.

It will be very interesting to see if the change in governance in Portsmouth means that more claims of wrongdoing by Portsmouth Lib Dems start to emerge. The Lib Dems have been shown on the national stage to be sleazeballs, but what has already come out about the activities of the party in Portsmouth will lead many to believe that the Portsmouth Lib Dem group is probably the most sleazy of them all.
